Trading tobacco across the atlantic?

Anyone have any experience of this?
I'm based in the UK and keep hearing about great blends which aren't available here.

Likewise i hear about varieties common here, which are hard to aquire in the USA.
So trading would seem to make sense, but is it that simple? I know customs like to grab any parcels from the USA and charge VAT, as well as their fee for the privilege of doing so. Is it worse for tobacco?

I have shipped tobacco to friends in London before, although it was not pipe tobacco, I have a friend who loves Skoal, for what ever reason. I had no difficulty in shipping it to him.

Would love to get some blends from the states but could not be

bothered with the vat and that lovely term they use here in the uk

I recently had a free 2oz (50g) sample of tobacco gifted to me from a lovely guy in the USA (Capt'Bob) to me in the UK, he didn't mark it as a gift and marked it as tobacco, got to me with no extra charges, the shipping was only $7.81. Also had a pipe sent to me from a member of this forum and the shipping was just a little over $6.

Having lived many years in Germany, I can assure you that tobacco found in an incoming package that hasn't been declared will get slammed with a hefty fine plus the normal amount charged on tobacco.
