Hi all. I want to thin the herd some but it seems like cleaning, polishing, photographing, posting, messaging, negotiating, etc numerous pipes requires more time than I care to devote at the moment.

Anyone have any good experience with a trade-in or commission program somewhere in particular? Or is it just worth the time for the 60% cut or whatever it is that a third party would take to do it myself? Thanks in advance for sharing your insight and personal experiences on this!

It really is going to depend on what kinds of pipes you are talking about. If you mean a bunch of Dr Grabows or similar, then you might want to just offer them as a lot on ebay, and just push them out as Buy Now. If you mean some Dunhills or handmade Danish masters that hold their value, then definitely Pipestud or Smokingpipes. Mid level pipes or factory makes, like Petes, Savs, or Nordings, then probably just Smokingpipes.

I've been satisfied with trading pipes for store credit with smokingpipes.com. The return is a little better than cash back, if you want to reduce a group of pipes for one you'd prefer.

Their offer is not a windfall but can be refused. And you don't invest time and energy in trading online. Occasionally, they'll have "sales" that pay a percent more than their usual offers, if that happens to come around.

Yeah probably more mid level. Maybe a Dunhill or castello or two. Something like that.

Pipestud wants the pipes at least presentable to the public (i.e., sellable) whereas smoking pipes prefers the pipes as is and will clean them themselves.
Good to know! Mine are in good, but used condition. Didn’t know if I needed to ream and clean and deoxidize and all that first
