Totally Bizarre Siamese Twins Pipe

This was sent in from Clive Loveless in the U.K.
He describes it as ...

Miniature, possible double pipe, carved wood,5x6.5cms, 2x2.5ins, South Africa, initialled S&G, CLSA1
This would seem to be the Salmon & Gluckstein maker's logo. Very small, twinned but with small air holes in between! Bit of a mystery!

I'm not sure where the stem goes.

Interesting old pipe. The Pipe Logos website has a section on siamese style pipes.

I didn't find anything there on that particular logo, though.

there is no place for stems...but a joined I think air passage between the two bowls!

Perhaps an early prototype of the 'wasp' or 'reverse calabash' shape that seems to be gaining popularity?

I guess you could put your mouth on one of the bowls and put tobacco in the other and smoke it. Might look a little goofy though.

Is it a siamese pipe or is the shank the same size as the bowl?

Other than lack of stem, thats very similar to some indigenous African pipes that had double clay bowls in the same style and a long stem in the center.

And it looks like one of the bowls has some charring / cake in it.. so it was actually smoked at one point in time... weird 8O

I think Irishsmoker's got it. A large diameter stem plugs into the non-tobacco bowl. Maybe one could even put some tobacco in the bowl that receives the stem, and toast it while you're smoking the first bowl. (I gotta get a life. :roll: )

Yeah it looks like the diameter of the right hand bowl is smaller than the left hand, probably took the stem.
