This was sent in from Clive Loveless in the U.K.
He describes it as ...
Miniature, possible double pipe, carved wood,5x6.5cms, 2x2.5ins, South Africa, initialled S&G, CLSA1
This would seem to be the Salmon & Gluckstein maker's logo. Very small, twinned but with small air holes in between! Bit of a mystery!
I'm not sure where the stem goes.

I guess you could put your mouth on one of the bowls and put tobacco in the other and smoke it. Might look a little goofy though.

Other than lack of stem, thats very similar to some indigenous African pipes that had double clay bowls in the same style and a long stem in the center.

And it looks like one of the bowls has some charring / cake in it.. so it was actually smoked at one point in time... weird 8O

I think Irishsmoker's got it. A large diameter stem plugs into the non-tobacco bowl. Maybe one could even put some tobacco in the bowl that receives the stem, and toast it while you're smoking the first bowl. (I gotta get a life. )
