I like the OHM silver in my pipe, a nice blend of Virginias and Turkish. There was one for a while that I liked named Organic, but they got called out for using fertilizers, ha ha.

Back in college after a bike ride trip through holland, we all started smoking Drum, which wasn't available here, so we got a pastor that we met there to mail us some after we got home, and a few years later it became available here. They changed their recipe a decade or more ago, made it less sweet and used fire cured which the original didn't have. I have heard that Stokkebye's Amsterdam Shag was the old Drum recipes, very sweet and strong but with a mild taste.

I don't smoke cigarettes anymore, but I find that the pipecut RYO's that I've tried are pretty good pipe tobaccos. They use fresher, more natural tobacco than actual cigarettes use. But, OHM is cheap here, and at like $5 a pound, it makes for a nice pleasant Virginia in the pipe.

Bugler or Kites... I just never got into those. Tasted like cardboard.

Peter Stokkebye Amsterdam, Turkish, and Norwegian (I think there are others; these are the three I’ve tried) come in both pipe cut and RYO shag. I find all three good, in multiple applications. The cigarette cuts smoke nicely in pipes, and with a little break-up, the pipe cuts make damn fine cigarettes, especially rolled in rice paper.

I’ve also had some fine experiences with American Spirit rolling tobacco in kiseru pipes. The canned product is good in particular.

(That Drum used to be good stuff, back in the 20th century ... )

I used to love Three Castles, those fine golden strands reminded me of a virgins pubic hair. Jim sent me a sample of Three Sails and it wasn't the same thing but maybe my memory was playing tricks on me. For a while you could buy Gauloises RYO over here in the U.S although I have not seen it around for ages. Golden Virginia and Old Holborn are the two that spring to mind and Nut Brown was a favorite with several members of our family although sadly none are available states side. Happy days!

Not much of a RYO guy but picked up a pouch of Drum at the smoke shop earlier today ($9 expensive as hell for just over 1oz). Look forward to trying it out In a pipe haven't smoked it in 20+ years and back then it was in a pop bottle bong and was the biggest buzzz EVER from tobacco lol the stupid things we do as kids lol.

3 Sails and Piquyne are other great shag cuts that should make a nice strong fag as well. Preference from the pond :)

For around the cost of a carton of manufactured cigarettes, you can get started with RYO by purchasing a top rolling machine, tobacco and tubes. The startup costs will provide a carton of RYO cigarettes and set up rolling your own for about $1 per pack.

The trick is finding the perfect mix of tobacco and tubes to satisfy your tastes. I got lucky and found my mix almost out of the gate. Ohm green with regular zen tubes for a Marlboro menthol taste.

I used to throw in a movie and roll them on a board game board for easy clean up and to distract me just enough.

I wasn't a fan of the taste when using a pipe, but it was cost effective for cigarettes.
