Thanks, sallow. I have a straight billiard just like it (they must have been a set). I'm getting it refurbished to give to a friend.

Here they are,

1. Most Elegant, I don't know how "elegant" it is , but it's the one that's worth the most! A Caminetto "107KS" Business.
2. Most True to Form, I'd have to say my Ehrlich "Straight Grain" Dublin. There were other contenders though.
3. Most Unique, This was probably, actually a three way tie, but I cheated and put two in anyway. I picked my Jobey "355" Stromboli because its the only "Acorn" shape I have, and because the rustication makes it look like it came from the depths of a volcano! And then there's my Peterson Dracula "03", nuff said there!
4. Most Smoked, I decided on my most smoked aro pipe, and my most smoked English pipe. My aro pipe of choice is my Peterson "313" System Standard. My most smoked English pipe is probably my Old England "Virgin Briar" straight billiard.
5.Oldest, My oldest is a Charatan "348DC" sandblasted pot, as far as I can figure, it's from the 60's.

Vhoores: GBD is to die for, I love the Prehistoric GBD I own.
Pitchfork: Simplicity of line is elegance in my book, ergo both interchangeable and one of the things I was shooting for in seeing other pipes.
Captainsousie: Excellent group!
jgriff and samcoffeeman: Very beautiful groups, thanks for sharing.
pruss: I had a hard time between the Wallensteing, the Benner (which is the one of which you speak) and the Jean di Toit Pietenpauw Just-1 simply because it's the only one of its kind he ever made, I chose the Wallenstein because I have to trim mu mustache to smoke it or it can be frightening! ;)

1. Your most elegant pipe: That's between my 317-sized Wellington System, smooth with great birdseye and flame grain and a very shiny nickel band/cap, and my Stanwell Sixtus.

2. Your most perfect to form, i.e. classic shape, pipe: My Dr. Grabow Starfire billiard is basically a textbook example of the British/classic American take on that shape.

3. Your most unique pipe: One of those "Ukrainian" carved things. The image is a grouse with vegetation in the background, it actually looks really neat.

4. Your most smoked pipe: Tough. Probably the Grabow billiard (it's the easiest to carry and one of the lightest for clenching) or the Stanwell.

5. Your oldest pipe: By manufacturing date-1930's Kaywoodie Supergrain Canadian. The pipe I've had the longest is the Wellington.

Well this isn't much fun without pics, but:
1. Your most elegant pipe- Well I have two Savinelli 413 shapes- 1/4 bent Dublin that I think are real classy ladies.

2. Your most perfect to form, i.e. classic shape, pipe- You know, I've got an older Dr. Grabow straight Dublin with pretty decent grain that just a classic shaped pipe.

3. Your most unique pipe.- My corncob is the most unique to my collection- and never smoked :)

4. Your most smoked pipe.- Mastro de Paja 1/8 bent sandblasted billiard

5. Your oldest pipe.- Kaywoodie straight apple 95b- something around a 50s/60s vintage I believe.

Can't post pics from my iPad but here goes:
1. Elegant: A recently acquired Stanwell brass band, 4-paneled, sandblasted horn. Honorable mention to a Savinelli "Texas Tradition" straight apple with a well-done blast and gorgeous Cumberland stem that I think is a real looker.
2. Perfect to shape: Probably my Peterson Shannon billiard. Not a fancy or expensive pipe, but nice grain and a classic, large-bowled billiard. Several honorable mentions in this category. Was a tough call.
3. Unique: Ukrainian pear wood bent billiard with a saddle bit and a carving on one side with some Celtic, horse-inspired knot work. Smokes Virginia's like a dream. Honorable mention to a Bjarne Nielsen handmade tomato with a huge, bulbous bowl and a comparatively tiny quarter-bent stem - a strange pipe that smokes very well.
4. Most smoked: Well, it's not "one" pipe, but I have a number of Country Gents that I smoke throughout the day. For a single briar, my most smoked is probably a blasted Stanwell 242 that is typically my morning smoke with Escudo and a cup of coffee.
5: Oldest: A long-retired, small-bowled, fancy silver-banded bulldog from the 1890's acquired by my mother-in-law in an antique store in Scotland. Of unknown make. With its own Meerschaum-style case.

Fishnbanjo - first I must compliment you on this ingenious thread, what a great idea it is, shining a light on the subjective nature of things, the experiential aspect and the involved thought of prompting each pipesmoker to qualify in his mind which pipes best meet those specific attributes...
...and we get to see everybodies cool pipes, a win-win!

:puffy:

..............that Benner pipe is a jawdroppingly intense design exercise, like German expressionism-meets-natural Japanese-meets-fluid dynamics-meets-oceanic reefs-meets- Dankse pibe luftkasteller!!!
Pitchfork, I love that pic of the 70, truly the image brings out its inherent elegance and puts it on immediate display, especially so that it seems to balance by perfect measure and the flow is ultra-smooth in that it appears to be a perfect little solid sculpture, like it had came into being all by itself, as its form is so concentratedly precise, grown from beneath the tree to exist as a true rightful root and graced with some mighty fine grain too!
Now, I've been thinning the herd as of late, so I got slim pickings and none ain't too fancy, but I wanted to share anyway because I love the idea of this thread...
1. Most elegant is probably this black bamboo Stanwell:

a1mhBq0.jpg

2. Most perfect to sandblasted form is this Dunhill 252, not exactly THE billiard,

but pretty damn close!

R0bMzQR.jpg

3. Most unique is this Russ Cook pipe, a shape he calls a "diamond dog"

Y4urYdn.jpg

0ot2QkR.jpg

4. Most smoked is definitely this crusty old Royal Danish 63M :

HqRtfDg.jpg

5. Most oldest? Well, I ain't got too many older ones,

so I reckon I'll toss out this 50's or 60's BBB which

is awaiting a proper refurb:

Excellent idea FB.
1. Your most elegant pipe.
I'd have to give that prize to my Dunhill Bing.
dunhill1.jpg

2. Your most perfect to form, i.e. classic shape, pipe
I think that belongs to my most recent Peterson Kapp Royal 106
002-029-18468_1.jpg

3. Your most unique pipe.
Probably my Peterson Ebony Spigot
pete-spigot1-600x437.jpg

4. Your most smoked pipe.
Presently I'd say my 1962 birth year Dunhill:
dunhill62-1.jpg

5. Your oldest pipe.
That would be my newly acquired Kaywoodie Drinkless that dates to the 1930s.

Some great looking pipes guys, well done.
Most elegant pipe is my Jody Davis Cardinal Grade Rhodesian.

Most true to form would be this Rad Davis Lovat.

Most unique pipe would be this Rad Davis Rhodesian.

Most smoked pipe would be this Rad Davis Dublin.

Oldest would be a Lane Era Charatan After Hours Distinction Grade Dublin, probably made in the 60's or so.

From Top to bottom...

1. My most elegant pipe: The "Starship Enterprise" by Nate King

2. My most perfect to form, i.e. classic shape, pipe: Prince by Northern Briars

3. My most unique pipe: Crowned, tormented blowfish by Grant Batson

4. My most smoked pipe: Blasted egg by Scott Thile

5. My oldest pipe: Gourd calabash. I showed it to Gary Schrier years ago and all he could say was, "wow, that's old."

A close-up of the calabash's silver hallmarks. Does "A.D." stand for "Alfred Dunhill"? But no white spot I'm afraid.

Nice pipes bigvan. By the way, your calabash is by Delacour Bros. LTD and the marks stand for August Delacour and Joseph Delacour.

Nice pipes friends!
Six, you get bonus points in my book for consistency of form/style in your pipes, but playing in all 5 categories that Banjo laid out. I love seeing how you find nuance in the pipes you pick up within a specific form. Very cool.
Banjo, that Benner is just a stunner. I just love looking at it. Thanks for re-posting.
Misterlowercase, I have the Pot twin to your BBB Billiard sitting on my rack right now. I love the blast, size and weight of those pipes.
Is anyone else surprised by how many Pete's are making the lists?
Keep 'em coming!

Bigvan. I am finding a little info that indicates that they were silversmiths but also were in the pipe making trade. One of the pieces of information is actually here in a post by igloo about a month ago. Another is the Pipedia reference that they were a London branch of Delacour pipes in France info here. Either way, it's a great looking, and darn old, calabash. Are the hallmarks visible for dating?
Almost forgot the pipephil info on Delacour here and here.

Again, I love this thread -- great idea, banjo.
misterlowercase,
A couple of questions...
First, I love that bamboo Stanwell (and I don't even like bamboo), but I'm wondering if it has a regular Stanwell number (207, 245...?).
Second, I'm curious why you choose your old "crusty" 63M over the others.

Fish, I've been eying those new Tsuge's since I first saw 'em a few weeks back. Actually, while I was at work, a strange thing happened... I was minding my own business, working diligently, when the image of that exact tankard appeared before my mind's eye, with a speech bubble above it that read "Buy me."
