Those days of multiple opened tins and jars are long gone. At most, I have three blends working at any one time, and I often just work my way through a tin before choosing a different one.
Maybe someday.
I’m only a couple and a half years in and have probably 48 jars that are storage and subject to being smoked from at any time.
Now I am concentrating on burning up the ones that I’m not too interested in replenishing. Effort is being made to streamline.
Backing that up I do have quite a few large jars that are storage of the blends I’m interested in keeping in stock.
I’m not concerned with “aging” per se, just gathering what I like at this point.

Anyone else have this problem? You open a tin or jar, smoke a couple pipes with that blend, and then you want to change it up a bit with another blend. So you open a second tin and switch between the two for a while. Somehow a third blends enters the fold, and then a fourth. And then more..... yeah. I uh... have several blends going now. What can I say? I like variety. However, how do you stop yourself from unnecessarily opening too many only to have to waste more jars, in an effort to keep your tinned tobacco from drying out. I've long had this problem. I need discipline, my friends! Advise me, please.
Why the stress? Open and enjoy them. None of us gets out of this alive. It's not a "problem."

There are “jars” and then there are canning jars where you took the time to remove the tin label with a heat gun and glue it on the new jar & lid to present well on the shelf. In the latter circumstance, I see no problem with as many “open” tins that have been properly jarred as your roving palate desires.

A unopened tin will likely never be enjoyed by the pipe smoker who purchased it. But a jar…View attachment 374327View attachment 374328
Beautiful display!

I am curious if you have tried the Palmetto Balkan? I have a couple of those but thought I would wait a while before opening one.

I was actively bouncing around 2 dozen jam jars of tobacco. For this thread i pulled all my jam jars and took pics. I was amazed to discover a crap ton of Hearth and Home samples I bought early on. These will be fun to smoke in the future.
First, a jam jar:

Next: my 'open' jars (most are 3/4 full or more):

I am a mood piper so yeah that requires at least 10-12 🫙 jarred baccy available when starting. Now I am up to 36 open jars and many blends in mylar waiting for an available jar. I only change out the jar lid and I’m good to go. J.A.D. Is definitely a thing. A good buddy of mine keeps the jar cardboard and cellars the blends in the jars and stacked cases onto one another. Very organized
Why didn't I ever think of that? That's perfect!
