Ya'll newbies be sure to remember to be extremely careful smoking any wood (briar) or meer pipes in freezing temps.
You're risking some cracking due to rapid temp changes if you smoke too fast in the cold.
If you're not confident that you can smoke a bowl without it getting too hot too fast then smoke something you won't miss.

It's 36 here west of Philly, and wet. I hate smoking in the rain (so I don't). I barely snows here, and it never sticks. Makes me miss Buffalo. I actually prefer to smoke in the winter time, as long as it's not snowing sideways. But when it's too hot (summers can easily get to 95 deg F and 95% humidity around Philly), the last thing I want to do is have a pipe.

I hear you murf. I am in S NJ and its damp today but up to 41. I am in my garage with the space heater on sanding molding and smoking some Chipman Hill from 4noggins.
I also hate smoking when it's hot and humid

Happy to see Immanuel Kant on an avatar, very good show.
On the topic, I have been having issues smoking over here in the UK. I'm at University in the Midlands, whereas i'm usually residing in the South East below London which is often far warmer than that of Midlands. I have had to make a decision to rebel against the accommodation rules, to put a sock on my smoke alarm and get the pipe out. Though I think I should state that I did universalize that action, and decided I would be fine in a world in which everyone did the same :)

Managed a smoke yesterday afternoon on my snow covered patio in Ottawa, Canada. It was after work and the temperature was starting to drop. It was around -3C when I lit up. There was a slight breeze but did not affect my smoke. Frog Morton's Cellar in my Butz Choquin churchwarden. Warming up for the next Hobbit movie. . .
