Tongue Fatigue

I was unaware of the opposite, but have taken a wine tasting class for personal development as I didn't care much for wine (and still don't).

Perhaps a wine connoisseur could briefly chime in since I would like to know the proper order regardless.

It's all BS. Depends on what you're eating.

After a bit of experimentation I have found that it's the latakia. Burleys and Va/Pers I can enjoy all day with no ill effects, however once I have a stout latakia I am committed to that for the rest of the day. The only exception was when I tried about a 7-10 year old tin of Captain Earl's Stimulus and followed it with a fresh tin of Elizabethan and could still taste the latter. I guess there's a reason they're considered "night caps" but many smokers.

Smoking less is not an option. Get yourself a bottle of Biotene mouth wash and when your mouth or tongue start to get funky, take a big mouthful of Biotene and swish it around for a while.

I should also say when i drink coffee sometimes with a pipe the acidity messes with my tongue and tastes, not as big a problem with cigars but with a pipe it can make a huge difference, tea doesn’t have that affect so at some point i switch to a nice hot cup of Irish Breakfast tea.

I'm sorry for reviving this thread, but I'm experiencing the same problem right now. I've noticed that coffee completely kills the flavor of my pipe, so I switched to tea as well. It's good to know that it wasn't just my impression.

Sometimes you got to just put the pipe down and give it a rest. When you start dreaming of a good smoke again then your ready. Don't over do it

Softer less harsh blends in the morning. Virginia and Per towards the night helped me some.
Also your younger will build up some strength over time to handle it the more/longer you smoke.

Try Biotene mouthwash. Some stores like Walmart have their own version.

Regardless of what I smoke and how often, I find taking a day or two off periodically really helps reset my palate.
