I've always liked the looks of horns. Never purchased one because of the forward cant and what I believe is a very real concern about charring the top edge of the bowl.

Anyone with any experience used this shape in the past with good results?

Pretty fancy pipe by the way! Did you buy it?

It wasn't available, I just happened to see it while my PAD was leading me around the Internet in search for my next addition.

I have a smaller Stanwell horn I normally use for flake - due to the shape it does require a bit more work to keep an eye on level of ash/tamping but no "real" issues with tthis type shape. I have my eye on a Meer horn.

That is a cool looking pipe, but I can't be the only 1 that feels like smoking that would be a pain in the ass....I am not a fan of being unable to see the tobacco while I'm trying to light it. In this case, it'd be even worse because I wouldn't want any scorch marks around that nice looking rim.

Knife pipes are really cool and that is particularly beautiful. But...as much as I like the look of horns they're such a pain to light that it detracts from the enjoyment.

Like any other pipe, rim char is operator error. Leveling the chamber when lightning helps but isn't necessary.

Thank you. Leveling the chamber when lighting is not too hard I suppose, but sounds inconvenient to me. Interesting to hear it's not necessary. The remainder of the smoke I imagine the ashes-end (?) pointing straight out horizontal or down, and the heat going towards the top of the bowl. That's got to leave a mark...

I'm just not happy when the rim gets either charged/burned, or otherwise changes color due to the heat of the lit tobacco. That's not happening to you? Some are ok with that, but I've avoided forward cant bowls for that reason. Perhaps (I imagine) operator error is possibly more likely with this shape because it requires different technique. I get that. But that technique is hard for me to imagine.

Maybe I am wrong and should try one! I love the look of the shape and it seems it's working well for you. I'll reconsider one I have had my eyes on.
