It's a Navy N-1 deck jacket reproduction. Used on aircraft carrier deck during WWII through Korean War. Very warm. Was never in service, but love surplus and repro clothing. Very practical. That fatigue jacket must be relatively new. I don't remember that from my USN 1968-1972 hitch. We had a long black rain coat, a light dungaree jacket, and a peacoat. Although I think the guys in aviation may have had some jackets like that, I'm not sure. I got my chosen ship assignment avoiding aircraft carriers and choosing a minesweeper.
I notice that fatigues have been approved for street wear in recent times. It used to be dress uniforms only when off base. I think this applies to all services. You see recruiters in cammo for example.
