Is there anyone in Canada that is know for their restoration abilities? A quick Google search provided a few names but no reviews. I'm a tradesmen myself and I can appreciate the skills it takes to preform quality work. I have also seen shops in many industries that perform substandard work. If these pipes are of historic and monetary value I really don't want to chance it with an unknown repair shop.
I know without actually holding them and checking them out thoroughly one can't provide an accurate appraisal. I'm just curious what would you guys think these 5 pipes may be worth and what order they fall in in relation to eachother. I have a friend I'd like to present one to.
Thanks again for your advice. I'm super excited to have won the pipe lottery! There's no way I would have been able to afford to buy any of these at a retail store I'm sure. Can't wait to smoke them and compare them against each other and expand my limited smoking experience with some historic pipes.
Greg

Pictures. My easy way; if using a tabbed browse>open home in a new tab>from the my account drop down menu>album>pictures>click on the thumbnail to see the actual picture you uploaded>right click on image>copy image location. In this thread which is open in another tab>from the toolbar select IMG>backspace out or delete the highlighted default http://> Paste the copied image location from step 1>click ok. You will see the link, but not the image until you click send post. Repeat...like I said, a bit cumbersome.

On your question above, I can think of two names, both are members here, but both are going to want to see some pictures first.
Did you see my PM?
I forgot to mention, profile albums are not public on this platform.

Welcome aboard; I would say that just for the Dunhill alone you've landed with a splash. There is such a thing as right place, right time - congratulations on being there.
I have nothing to offer on the restoration process.

olde', you're correct to be cautious about restoration. Don't do these yourself as learning projects -- as someone already said. And be cautious about who you hire for restoration. You don't want to disturb the fundamental aspects of the finish nor the chamber. You could easily halve the value on the Dunhill by having it done wrong. It's a nice "burden" to have. Welcome aboard.

dmcmtk, Thanks, I will read through all of that tomorrow. I'm not sure how to ad pics? When I click on IMG it wants me to insert a URL. I don't have any online storage of photos
This how-to mentions a few good image hosting sites as well as simple instructions of how to get the right URL in the IMG tag. I prefer Imgur and Postimage.
Once your photos are on a photo hosting site (such as Imgur.com; Photobucket; Postimage; Dropbox, etc.), or on virtually any site, select the full image, then Control-click (Mac) or Right-click (Windows) on the image itself, then choose copy image location. Now paste that URL (the full web address, which should end in .jpg) into the IMG box in the reply window of the thread you're posting to.

Alright, here is a link Pipe photos of my pipe photos. Let me know if it works or not.
These are as I purchased them, I have not done anything except remove the stem from the bowl just to see if they would come apart easily and they all did. I can see that there has been signs of someone trying to scrape out the HEAVY HEAVY carbon within the bowls but I don't believe it has caused any damage, it appears as though it's just scratches in the carbon, I may be wrong?
The Yello-Bole has some unfortunate rim damage, I'm sure it hurts the value but I'll still be happy to have it as a daily user if I can get it restored properly.
As for the other 3 I mentioned, One is a long metal one with a tiny bowl, no logos makers markers etc. The other is heavily damaged same vintage as the pictured ones and the other is a novelty souvenir pipe I believe. I will post those pics later.
Again, I would be interested in sending these out to someone in Canada for immediate restoration/cleaning if you can refer me I would appreciate it. I really can't wait to smoke them, they're just a bit too skunky for me to dive in at this point. Enjoying my Brigham in the mean time.
Thanks

Greg

Greg, the photos look good. I'd definitely send them to an expert repair human. I'd get hold of Steve Laug of RebornPipes at slaug@uniserve.com. He's in Canada and very good. I would not smoke them until they get restored. You have a treasure trove, don't turn them into a pile of regret.

The Dunhill has been messed with a bit, but luckily by someone who didn't over-reach too much. Great find! It should restore nicely. :D

Awesome thank you so much. It's funny I'm a vintage audio collector, vinyl, receivers, speakers etc etc. Seems every week on my forums that I belong to someone has inherited or purchased gear that I've been looking for forever. They join the forum to find out what they have and it's crazy the stuff they come up with. I always ask myself why can't I find something like that for that price?! I guess sometimes you get lucky. I will contact Mr. Laug this evening.
Take care,
Greg

OK.
In the above pictures the Dunhill pipe appears to be the pipe to the farthest right. From John Loring,
While Dunhill introduced it’s initial "inner tube" fitting (a metal removable tube that fits in the shank to ease cleaning and removal of tobacco fragments) around 1911 it did not secure it’s initial patent for the same until 1913, thus ‘duke street’ pipes with patent number stampings may be dated to the 1913 - 1918 period. Similarly, if the ‘duke street’ stamped pipes also are stamped PAT. 1914 or PAT. MAR.9.15 they may be dated to either the 1914 or 1915 - 1918 period respectively.
Next the question becomes the shape number and the stem. "Patented 1914 39 or 3D (not sure of the markings" This shape number becomes very important, 39?...something else? It's not 3D. To my eye, from these two pictures, the stem looks more modern. An example of shape 39 from a later catalog.

Also of note from the pipedia Dunhill Timeline,
1915: The famous white spot was introduced so customers would know which way to insert the handmade vulcanite mouthpieces on straight pipes (the spots face up).

So, just a question, does the stem have a White Dot on it (and despite the above, I could think of a scenario where it might)? Still, from the pictures, it's the shaping/proportions of the stem that call it into question.

Thank you for the info guys! Yes the stem has the white dot. And after talking to Steve last night we determined it is a 39.
I have them all boxed up now and ready to ship to him for restoration.
I was playing with drop box trying to better catalogue the photos and messed it all up. I will try and reload them again later.
Will post pics and info when I receive them back from restoration!
Thanks to all who have provided me information
Greg
