In most states, the money from permits stays with the dept of wildlife to help keep fish in rivers &a streams, wildlife management, etc. Please don't short change the management of the resources. They are having a tough time during this pandemic. There are a lot more people using the outdoors to stay sane.

Should have been a record year, revenue wise. The pandemic can't help, and simultaneously hurt a business or an organization. It has to be one or the other, my friend.

I’m assuming he meant that despite the increase of people accessing the outdoors, they are either not paying permits or doing permit exempt activities which still require maintenance despite not providing a revenue stream

Hey, everyone gets an opinion.. logic is not required.

But, looks like to me if the number of people using the resources increased... then the number of permits sold certainly increased. Unless the... (geez.. I hate typing it..) pandemic only brought out the short changers.

Look man, its hard to read and hear some of this pandemic stuff.. its the thing that excuses and relates to everything.. even when it doesn't.

I'm not short changing anyone by going to the river and catching dinner. The good Lord put those fish there, it didn't cost smokey the bear a dime.

I like @trouttimes.. I enjoy his post, and I don't mean any harm, but for fuck's sake.

Haven't fished in a long time. Will you be fishing off a boat, a pier, or in the surf? For a lot of different situations, I always like a bait casting reel, but some prefer a spin-caster. As a child, I caught a nice bass on my first outing, and the chef at the camp cooked it for my supper.

I'm headed off to a lake with the family in the summer and wanted to do some fishing with the kids. I'm trying to find them a little rod to use and probably a spin caster for myself.
And so began a lifetime of financial irresponsibility, disappointment, and tall tales.

He already smokes a pipe...

Ha!

Great news Mike! I hope you find as much pleasure fishing as I do.

I hope so, seems like a decent way to spend time with the kids in nature and everything. But as the sage @ashdigger said, its about the experience, not catching fish. If it were just about getting fish it would be called shopping.

The tough time is managing all the Yahoo!'s that have never been outdoors before now and don't understand how to take care of the resources or themselves. Lots of twisted knees, heart attacks, broken arms not to mention trash both human and dogs. DOW has to deal with all this and try and protect resources and wildlife so it can be both good and bad. The good is as more and more people experience the great outdoors, they learn to appreciate it more and understand it's value. The bad is the impact a larger than normal user group has on the resource.

... a fisher-man!

Just got my fishing permit/outdoors card in the mail. Now I just need a rod and reel and some worms.

I'm pleasantly surprised it came as soon as it did. I just wanted to make sure it got here before July when we go away.
You have never owned a fishing licence/rod/reel before now???

Interesting.

I plan on taking my pipe with me next weekend on a fishing trip. It's a great combination.
