Thanks for your response.Sorry my bad, Brown Number 4 (and another) not listed under the long list of twists on the export list, but under SG tins. So yes there are 2 SG twists produced and sold in tins.
Tobaccoreviews.com is just a review site, it should not be taken as gospel. We are not editing anything on it or even submitting anything to it etc.
I don't know what to tell you. People are saying they are most definitely Gawith ropes, Kendal ropes and our production staff agree they look very similar to our ropes from pictures, yet you are saying they are not the same as the twists we produce. I am telling you we do not make speciality twists for anyone. So either there is some backyard twist maker hiding down in a basement somewhere in Kendal with old machinery and skills or they are twists produced by someone entirely different - but then why the need to market them as being made by a Kendal manufacturer? Surely if they are as good as people say, they would sell on their own merit without needing to use our name to sell them. And our packaging? Or they are indeed just our ropes.
So how are they markedly different? If it's the same wrapper leaf and the same structure" - what's different about them?
When I said they are markedly different I should have been clearer. They have the wrapper I've come to know as the GH dark Virginia wrapper, but the inside is bright Virginia +/- Perique which I haven't seen in a GH rope.
It's fine, I hypothesized that some bespoke ropes may have been made for specific suppliers at some point in time. I don't believe synjeco ever claimed they are made in Kendal, so this is likely community hypothesis based on the similarities noted above, and written as such on tobaccoreviews. Then again there are plenty here with vast experience in pipe smoking and hundreds of blends under their belts, so aside from going with my own taste buds I do trust their opinion when I read "they probably are a Kendal product".
In any case, this is just us trying to understand where the market stands, really appreciate you're active here!
