That is exactly what I am talking about loborx! And, your pretty good on that thing too. That is one of my favorite styles to play as well, like Fred McDowell or R.L. Burnside; both were greats!

I use them to store screws, nails and spacers used for laying ceramic tiles.

Use 1 as an emergency kit in my motorbike. Not got much storage room under the seat and one of those tins fits perfectly. Fits a small swiss army knife, £10 for fuel, cable ties and some other small bits and bobs.

Interesting that thus far no one has said that they throw them out.

What's more interesting is that thus far no one has said they actually store tobacco in their tobacco tins :P
edit: but then again, the question was in regards to empty tins I suppose

I'm fairly new, and haven't worked all the way through any of my tins yet, but the instant I saw my first tin (it was Peterson Irish Flake) start to empty, I knew what empty tins were made for. Gifts for kids! Did anyone ever have Dad bring back some precious trinket from a trip to far away in a cigar box? The little ones are nearly as fascinated with the container itself as with whatever comes in it. And what better way to introduce them to the beauty and mystique of the leaf?
It's potent PR. Those kids will grow up to be members of society, and they'll remember grandpas and uncles who gave them little tins when they came to visit. When I was little, I used to carry everything--and I do mean everything--in my pockets. Little tins and boxes were worth their weight in gold. I don't imagine it'll be any different for kids of this generation.

I use various square flake tins to keep different trappings for my pipes in (extra softee bits, q-tips, wind-caps, etc), while unique round tin lids go on display around my man-cave. Doubles of round tins live in various places around my house, for example, I keep one in the back of my amp, full of picks, capo, slide, etc.
The C&D and McClelland tins I remove the labels from (which the wife then decopages to a breadbox I've converted to a tobacco storage area), cut a slit in the lid, and use for fouled pipe-cleaners in my truck and man-cave.

schmitzbitz, I like that idea for keeping capos, picks, slide (maybe some spare strings too?).

For me, I only have a few empties...I usually buy bulk tobacco...(I do have about 40 tins that are new) I set them in a box and do nothing with them...It's nice that it's a 2 for 1 item...first you smoke the tobacco, then you have a empty storage tin!!

Here's one of the things I like doing to my used tins. My wife made the first one out of a Samuel Gawith tin.
I'd really like to do this with some very artistic tins.

Bootleg Brilliant! :D

I have a small collection of older tins, I will have to turn one of them into a clock. Cool idea.

My new empty tins usually get lables identifying what I put inside, type of screws, power tool bits, etc. If the rubber seal is still in good order, a great way to have a small semi waterproof container when needed. Also they work great in the tackle box keeping some form of order of hooks and things.

Why not turn a larger tin, maybe a MacBaren, into a portable battery powered amp for use with your electrified cigar box guitar?

I use the twist top tins for fishing jigs.I do some bluegilling here in KY. I drop several lures and small hooks in the tin, slip into my back pocket. Some of the places I fish, require a bit of climbing, and walking. No need for a tackle box, when I pan fish.

Reseal tins with beeswax, or hot glue. I'm sure others know other ways.

Just now saw this post, so I'm late to the party. ;)
Bootleg and I make clocks differently. I seal the label on the top with a thick layer of acrylic to keep it from fading or getting scratched up. I also stick a magnet to the back (I really like magnetic things) so I can stick it to my white board. My grandfather made clocks out of everything he could get a hold of so I kind of picked it up. I've also made clocks out of old hard drives - one I encrusted with turquoise beads and the other I framed. This is one of the hard drives:

I need to get pictures of the others.
