Yes, it happens to me but I can still taste the thing that made me want to smoke a given tobacco.

Two things are never the same. Unless you are one of the Swedish female tag team.
Why would it? On a well made spigot, the metal is merely on the outside of the pipe. I have several that use stainless steel tubing inside the draft to get the shank as thin as possible, and even on those, there is no moisture problem.
I think most moisture issues come from stepped down draft sizes, compressing the smoke, and turbulence.

The most drastic experience I've ever had was when I was a new smoker. Frog Morton Cellar. In a cob, it was the most amazing thing I've ever tasted. Almost a pure Hickory smoked flavor with some earth and sweetness. In a briar, all I could taste was the Virginias. It was a very strange and stark contrast between the two pipes. I still haven't been able to recreate that experience with latakia, in any pipe, but I'll never forget it.
