I've always been one to only buy enough tobacco at a time to last about 6 weeks of smoking and then bought more. Therefore, always left it in the bags it came in without issue. However, am contemplating soon buying another 2 pounds which, combined with the 2 pounds I recently bought, would give me roughly an 8 month supply. So, wondering if the longer term storage that implies would necessitate jarring it up or whether it would fare OK remaining in the bags.I'd prefer not to jar if unnecessary. Thanks for your input.

When you are talking pounds of leaf, I'd expect to jar it. In that quantity, it could easily get sidetracked by something else you've decided to try. Unopened tins I just stack in my stash and they usually do fine.

Just jar it. Would be a shame to buy tobacco for down the road and once you get to it the tobacco sucks or has lost most of its wonderful flavors.
Did find a number of screw top glass jars laying about the house and so packed the 2 pounds I recently bought but not dipped into yet in them 2 of them were quite large, perhaps 16+ fluid ounces. I recall someone on here claiming a pound would fit into an 8 ounce Ball jar. However, could only get about 3/4 pound in 1 of the large jars. If I do lay in another 2 pounds, will pick up some more screw top glass storage jars.
