You're right. I opened up the tin to take a peek and it looks like there's rust on the inside?

The tins on my experience don't protect the tobacco at all. They worse then rattrays metal tins.

But your not losing much out if the peterson tobacco is bad

I can't remember who it was, but their tip for dry tobacco was to load it into the pipe, breath a couple breaths into the loaded bowl, and enjoy.

Worked for me.
