I got to a point a while ago when cigarettes and cigars tasted absolutely foul.
It just happened out of the blue. and a good job it did as far as I'm concerned.
Pipes all the way for me from now on.
Yes, they are rank but it’s the “quick fix” that is hard to get away from when I’m out. The fact that I can smoke one cigarette after another after a beer or two is worrying me more as I get older but England doesn’t have the weather to be able to sit outside in winter and enjoy a slow smoke of a pipe at the pub. That and the fact that pipe smokers are rarer than hens teeth these days; apart from in these dark corners of the web where we amass. ?

Same story as friend Morrison. I tried cigarettes for the first time, and I told myself that I would never put such shit in my mouth again. That's when I started my long road to pure tobacco, and finally to pipe tobacco. The big tobacco cigarette companies launched a fantastic campaign of self-destruction.

Yep but to assume any form of tobacco is any safer than another is pure folly.
True but I do think the lack of inhalation makes pipes fractionally less harmful than fags…unless you inhale your pipe smoke in which case - how?? Pipe smoke knocks the hair off my toes if I try to inhale it, which I have done on a few occasions and regretted it every time. ??

Maybe it’s the time element of smoking a pipe that stops me from taking it out as well? ?
If you take the pub pipe to the pub it will take you long indeed! I nowadays never go to the pub anymore, but if I would I would sit in a corner, have a quality Guinness or 2 or 3 and have a nice pipe, would take me 2 hours or so for sure. But unfortunately no smoking in bars anymore, even cigarshops aren't allowed a smoking lounge anymore.

I've not found a pipe blend that I can't inhale but only do so occasionally. Usually during lighting and the last couple of draws. The chemicals still get into the blood stream and may cause cancers not even directly connected to the mouth, throat, and lungs. Brain, pancreas, colon, etc. I still take the risk because I enjoy tobacco too much.

It is enjoyable that you are allowed to indulge in your pipe at the pub. For me, at least, after a Guinness or two, I would have a mindset that wouldn’t give a damn if someone started to throw around the “hipster” moniker at me. So…. maybe you should have a drink or two first…. then you won’t care (if like me) and can just enjoy your pipe. ?

(But…. you have to take my advice with a grain of salt…. I am a furry-faced, grey-haired, old curmudgeon that would never be thought of as a “hipster” anyway, so what the hell do I know?)

Seriously, watch and share this video.

I feel sorry for cigarette smokers. I'm a weirdo/recluse at work and I don't mind. Cigars and pipes still place you at 8x more likely to obtain throat/mouth cancer than a non smoker. But cigarette smokers/inhalers are 8x more likely to get lung cancer than pipers/cigar smokers.

It makes me sad to think of the 15 years I damaged my lungs while not really enjoying tobacco. Cigarettes are disgusting, crack-like, junkie sticks. Chemically, they're literally free-basing nicotine off of 'reconstituted tobacco'.

Smoke your pipes and stoges with pride. You're right.

I used to love smoking Gauloises until I couldn't get them anymore. I tend to agree that cigarettes are crap, but I don't think that was always the case - Gauloises and Gitanes always had a great taste and flavour, and so did Lucky Strike before that crapped up the blend in 2008. I stick to the pipe mostly now, with a few Auld Kendle rollies (outstanding rolling tobacco!) a day. The taste and flavour is and always has been the big part of my smoking enjoyment.

As for the blokes in the pub, they can go to hell. They're just jealous they don't have the self confidence to be who they want to be in public. If you can't ignore their jibes, then revel in them.

I love all forms. I've tried and enjoyed all forms. These days its just pipes and cigs. Occasionally a cigar. No longer chew, or use dry snuff. But I did my fair share of both.

And no I don't care what any one says or thinks. The comments go away after a few times. My wife is a closet smoker, mostly just to our daughter. Its really hard for her to hide it from our nine year old, but she does her best.

There are less than a handful of people who's opinions on myself matter... everyone else can, and should, mind their own.

As for tobacco "fiends"... yes, there are some around the forum. I used to be one, but only care to use the pipe anymore.
