Going to be heading to Dublin in May and then up to Belfast and Portrush in the north. Just wondering what the price of a tin in Dublin is at the moment? Any good suggestions for places to buy? Going to be in Paris for a few days as well, but I'm told tobacco is pretty expensive in France - well, at least not much different from Canada.

In Dunlin you will not get much choice (not even Peterson tins at Peterson’s), and it is very expensive (the most expensive country in Europe for tobacco-related products I’d say). You can have a look at the JJFox website. In Belfast (UK) Miss Morans is the place to go, much cheaper than in Ireland, and a larger selection (changing often, their website is not really updated on tobaccos). In France , it is expensive, but cheaper than in Ireland. However not much choice compared to Germany or the US, but some blends you won’t get anywhere else.

Wow! Just saw Miss Morans! Would've never known about that in a million years! I had seen JJFox next to Peterson's but that was it. Miss Morans is actually just a walk from where I'm going to be staying so I'll check it out no matter what. But maybe when in Paris, I'll see what I can find there too. Thanks!

Dont get your hopes up in France either
A codger pouch will be around 18 euros
Cigarettes are 12 a pack just for reference.
Only Tobacs can sell tobacco due to the state run monopoly on tobacco.
The pickins are pretty slim.

I figure I'll probably do like when I went to Italy a couple years back - get some stuff that I normally can't get in Canada or is hard to find, (picked up a ton of Italian cigars that are unavailable in North America and some pipe tobacco as well,).

I didn’t find a single tin of tobacco in Dublin or anywhere else on my 2 week tour of the island. Petersons has Condor and yachtsman plug and a few pouches of wild Atlantic, Connemara and benson and hedges same with james fox. No tins. Condor RR and plug is available in all the newsagent stores and some Tescos. I searched hard and found nothing. But as stated above Northern Ireland has Miss Morans and some others which are must see for pipe smokers.

Can't help on places to go as I've never had the opportunity to go. But, when you get up to Portrush, you'll be near where my paternal family lived in Ballintoy parish prior to heading over here.

Choice here isn't the best. I second Miss Morans as it's a great shop with good selections, I've had family members from the north bring me tobacco from there all the time.
In terms of Dublin itself, as the others said, Peterson store is a must visit, JJ Fox is alright. Fox has some of their own nice blends like Banker's so maybe pick up a tin or two (be prepared for the price 😅). I'm also a big fan of Benson ans Hedges Ready Rubbed, you can get that anywhere here that sells pipe tobacco.
If you're looking for a nice pub to sit in and smoke your pipe, hit up Toners on Baggot Street. Absolutely massive smoking area out the back, pipe and cigar friendly!
I could go on all day about recommendations for what to do here because it really is a great place. Enjoy your trip!

Ooh - thanks for the Toners reference - I'm going to have to check that out! I wasn't sure what the law was on smoking in the pubs etc. in Ireland.
For sure I'm going to be hitting the Peterson store - I want to bring back a pipe and JJ Fox too.
Going to be there for four days - looking very forward to the trip!

A lot of pubs here have smoking areas but the quality varies haha. Toner's is definitely the nicest I've seen but Bonobo in smithfield is a close second - great pizza served there.
You're grand to smoke out on the street too of course, although with our wind I wouldn't recommend it.
Hope you enjoy your time here!
