Going to be heading to Dublin in May and then up to Belfast and Portrush in the north. Just wondering what the price of a tin in Dublin is at the moment? Any good suggestions for places to buy? Going to be in Paris for a few days as well, but I'm told tobacco is pretty expensive in France - well, at least not much different from Canada.

In Dunlin you will not get much choice (not even Peterson tins at Peterson’s), and it is very expensive (the most expensive country in Europe for tobacco-related products I’d say). You can have a look at the JJFox website. In Belfast (UK) Miss Morans is the place to go, much cheaper than in Ireland, and a larger selection (changing often, their website is not really updated on tobaccos). In France , it is expensive, but cheaper than in Ireland. However not much choice compared to Germany or the US, but some blends you won’t get anywhere else.

Wow! Just saw Miss Morans! Would've never known about that in a million years! I had seen JJFox next to Peterson's but that was it. Miss Morans is actually just a walk from where I'm going to be staying so I'll check it out no matter what. But maybe when in Paris, I'll see what I can find there too. Thanks!

Dont get your hopes up in France either
A codger pouch will be around 18 euros
Cigarettes are 12 a pack just for reference.
Only Tobacs can sell tobacco due to the state run monopoly on tobacco.
The pickins are pretty slim.

I figure I'll probably do like when I went to Italy a couple years back - get some stuff that I normally can't get in Canada or is hard to find, (picked up a ton of Italian cigars that are unavailable in North America and some pipe tobacco as well,).

I didn’t find a single tin of tobacco in Dublin or anywhere else on my 2 week tour of the island. Petersons has Condor and yachtsman plug and a few pouches of wild Atlantic, Connemara and benson and hedges same with james fox. No tins. Condor RR and plug is available in all the newsagent stores and some Tescos. I searched hard and found nothing. But as stated above Northern Ireland has Miss Morans and some others which are must see for pipe smokers.

Can't help on places to go as I've never had the opportunity to go. But, when you get up to Portrush, you'll be near where my paternal family lived in Ballintoy parish prior to heading over here.

Choice here isn't the best. I second Miss Morans as it's a great shop with good selections, I've had family members from the north bring me tobacco from there all the time.
In terms of Dublin itself, as the others said, Peterson store is a must visit, JJ Fox is alright. Fox has some of their own nice blends like Banker's so maybe pick up a tin or two (be prepared for the price 😅). I'm also a big fan of Benson ans Hedges Ready Rubbed, you can get that anywhere here that sells pipe tobacco.
If you're looking for a nice pub to sit in and smoke your pipe, hit up Toners on Baggot Street. Absolutely massive smoking area out the back, pipe and cigar friendly!
I could go on all day about recommendations for what to do here because it really is a great place. Enjoy your trip!

Ooh - thanks for the Toners reference - I'm going to have to check that out! I wasn't sure what the law was on smoking in the pubs etc. in Ireland.
For sure I'm going to be hitting the Peterson store - I want to bring back a pipe and JJ Fox too.
Going to be there for four days - looking very forward to the trip!

A lot of pubs here have smoking areas but the quality varies haha. Toner's is definitely the nicest I've seen but Bonobo in smithfield is a close second - great pizza served there.
You're grand to smoke out on the street too of course, although with our wind I wouldn't recommend it.
Hope you enjoy your time here!

If you are a pipe lover a stop in Germany is worth your while. Lots of great shops as well as tobacco.
An off-thread question, but hey - I started this one: what is the legislation for tobacco smoking in public in France - I'm going to be in Paris and I'm wondering if I can smoke in the park? I'm assuming terraces are out. (Going to try to visit La Pipe Du Nord while I'm there and maybe look for some tobacco around the jardin des tuileries).

It’s been a decade since I was there so I don’t know if anything has changed, but there were zero problems smoking in public outside spaces.

What surprised me is that in Paris I found myself smoking cigarillos more than pipes. They were the perfect smoke length while walking down to the bakery or somewhere

Miss Morans is an amazing shop, but the tobacco is pricey. Plus with the exchange rate from CAD to GBP not being favorable it adds a whole other layer of pricey. I still recomend going and will be visiting it myself next week. If you really want to pick up something nice ask Nyles to show you the Petes not on display.

Fidning tobacco in Dublin is tough as other have said and I didnt see any tins I couldnt get here for way less money. Heck, im even taking a bunch of tins over for one of the Peterson employees as I can buy it here in the US for half the cost.

There is a shop in Limerick, Cahil and Sons if you find yourself down there, great tobacco selection and Tea, but dont buy a cigar from them as they dont properly humidify them. Speaking of cigars, JJ Fox house blended cigars are quite nice, but costs what a nicer cigar in the US costs.

If youre looking to enjoy your pipe with a pint there are a few pubs with outdoor seating, Kehoes, which serves the best Guinness outside of the Guinness factory, has a very small little area upstairs which you can smoke in while enjoying your pint, its a short walk from Peterson and is located on Anne Street.
And then O'Donoghues a short walk from Kehoes located on Merrion Row, has a covered outdoor section where I've been told you can sit and enjoy a smoke but last time I was there it was way too crowded so I stood outside with a buch of other guys and enjoyed my pipe and pint.

Happy Travels. If it's your first time to the Emerald Isle congrats. Its an addicting place.

For parcs, you have now more than 70 parcs were smoking is not longer allowed: Les jardins sans tabac - https://www.paris.fr/pages/bientot-des-parcs-sans-tabac-5981
You can usually smoke outside of bars (terraces) , although asking first is always best. Pipe will not be a problem, sometimes cigars are. Around the jardin des tuileries you can visit « La civette du palais royal», which is supposedly the oldest tabacconist in Paris

Merci! Yes - I had plans to visit La civette! Thank you for the site and info - seems I'll be able to smoke my pipe admiring la fontaine Médicis!
