Growing up my grandparents (non Native) lived on the Flathead Reservation which is very different from the Dakota reservations. My wife is enrolled (Mohawk) who has friends we visited on other reservations, some are pretty rough but you wouldn't know it from the pow wows they have. When her health was better she was quite the dancer.

Some of my close friends have called me a "gringo" on occasion, but they do it out of affection, because they know me. I was raised in an environment that brought me into contact with Cree Elders at a young age. What of it? There's only one person on this thread who has raised race as a topic of conversation. As far as I know, the term is antiquated, and has no agreed upon definition. Rather than referring to Indigenous people as a collective race, it's considered more appropriate nowadays to refer to them with reference to their tribal affiliation. As far as my comments about the Manitoba Museum, colonialism is just a fact of history. If people have opinions on one side or another of a perceived issue, they should state them, unless they're afraid of pissing off the mods, in which case, what are we talking about here?

Well what we’re talking about here is an apparent tobacco thread that got turned into a wokefest.
If you want to talk about tobacco used in religious ceremonies, talk about it.
If you want to discuss “colonialism “, or whatever, do it. Don’t mix the two and pretend you didn’t.

Historically, tobacco and colonialism are greatly intertwined.
