Have any of you ever heard of these before? I haven’t!

I’ve considered collecting them. Sometimes the prices on complete working ones with keys make the cost prohibitive.

I have never seen, or even heard, of tobacco honor boxes. I need six or seven for the next pipe club meeting!

Legend has it that JRR Einstein once stole an entire tobacco honor box of year 2000 McClelland Christmas Cheer and from that point forward, every pipe he smoked gurgled no matter what he did.

Unimaginable system nowadays. Although, I could imagine filling it with my, ahem, erroneous purchases and if they were stolen, haha to the next guy.

Not tobacco related, but I encountered a similar type of honesty system here in Scotland about 2 years ago. Up north in the Highlands, just beyond Aviemore in the Cairgorms. At Boat of Garten golf club, it was late November and out of season. But plenty of sunshine, along the River Spey. The course was still open on the day we played, but the office/clubhouse was not. A notice on a wee table invited players to write their name on an envelope and include their green fees inside, then drop into their mail slot. The honor system. For what it’s worth. We likewise cut our Christmas tree each year on the property of a local guy who puts out an honor-system payment box like this.
It's also a common way of buying firewood in our area.

We'll sometimes encounter a roadside produce stand with the same system.

fun fact often these honor system things work out the opposite of how people think they will. Someone always over pays.
