I don't have a problem with the post office workers. They've always been nice and never ask what's in the package, I just thought it was crazy that they wouldn't ship the package just because there was a tobacco logo on the side of the box.
This is the first time I've had any issues sending out pipes/tobacco.
Beware all who are involved with the forum box pass...

Well, it's certainly good to know and I imagine they are just doing their job. I sometimes mail packages from my home (if they aren't large/heavy) for the letter carrier to pick up. Makes me wonder what might happen if I mailed something in such a box with a tobacco and or alcohol logo on the box (even if it did not contain such contents) and wonder if it might possibly be returned to me as I'm quite sure the letter carrier would not take notice of such a thing, nor is it his/her job to do so.

My trip to the USPS today went off without a hitch.
They asked me the usual ... liquids, flammables, perishables, etc. .... then slapped a sticker on it.
I'm quite sure that one's experience is widely variable but they're not all bad or stupid, IMO.
Now the DMV, on the other hand ...

Funny that P&C is mentioned. I just received a package from them today. I checked the box and there is nothing to indicate that there is anything tobacco related in the box. (even the label only says P&C Fulfillment) They also shipped UPS and then it transferred to the USPS once it made it local. I would guess if you use a plain brown box or one of the USPS boxes, you should be OK.

We had this discussion a couple of months ago when another member here had a similar experience. I've never had any difficulty with the Post Office. But if you have any concerns, bring along a print out of the regulations.

The biggest hassle I had just recently involved a rifle receiver, not a big surprise. Stood my ground, and in the end, I made them read their own regulations. Took them 30 minutes to figure it out. Having the regulations handy is what I believe unblocked the problem. They are not experts in their own rules.

The good news is now we all know shipping pipe tobacco is legit and can quote the reg's if the post office ever poses a problem.

How on earth did they know you were sending a rifle receiver? Did they ask what you were sending and if so, why would you tell them? Number one, it's none of their business unless they feel, and or somehow suspect that you are sending something which is against postal regulations. Number two, when in doubt, LIE and simply tell them that it's a pound cake, a vase, etc. I can guarantee you that your package, which is amongst thousands upon thousands of packages sent daily that they will not inspect, nor X-ray your package.

FWIW, if you have a PayPal account, and a printer, you can print USPS postage at home, with a discount:
https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now
Pop that box in your mailbox and off it goes.

^^ As I previously posted, that's more often than not what I do if the package isn't too large. Even with that, you can arrange for the carrier to pick up your package (no matter what the weight) with no hassle and no questions as long as you have the pre-printed label on them. Ergo, the questions from a clerk is, more or less, total and non-essential BS which doesn't mean squat.
... no spy cameras.
Yeah, that too. lol

A couple of you guys are trying to take the ordeal out of dealing with the post. What will the others have to bitch about?
Don't forget the nosy neighbor and her smart phone camera peering through the drapes.

Yeah I've had that happen, most postal employees don't know the laws. When they block me I just drive to another post office and ship it.
