It looks in the pictures like it has a wood stem? Does Peterson put wood stems on all Irish Seconds, or could it be an indicator how a ballpark estimate on how old it may be? The seller has no idea around what year it was made, and for some reason I'm really interested in knowing when. Dunno why.

It looks like slightly oxidized vulcanite to me.

No, the stem's not wood. As austin points out, it's oxidized vulcanite

And it that is the case, it might smell a little bit too. Some alcohol and Mr. Clean magic eraser, then some stem oil will get that stem looking nicer. Sweet find!
