Bought some tins last week and couldn't resist the temptation to open every one of them. Here I come to ask if it can be sealed again (obviously not factory-like sealing) or if it has to be transferred to a jar. Like do gou keep anything at all inside the tin?

How many tins are open? I say enjoy them from your tins, so long as you know you’ll be visiting them regularly. — I just came across a 2010 tin of MacBarren Norwood that was open for at least that long and contained only crumbs, just enough to scrape a bowl together — and although dry, it smoked just as I remembered, maybe better.

If you plan to smoke through them until gone, a little drying as you make your way through isn’t going to hurt at all.

I’d jar any that you may want to come back to at a later date. Enjoy

I've had tins open for over a year with no ill affect. In fact, I am perplexed by guys who want to keep their tobacco wet in the tins, and then go through the hassle of drying it bowl by bowl meticulously before each smoke. Just dry the tin, and save yourself some time. It takes a very long time for a tobacco to lose it's tobacco-ness.

Depends upon the environment you're in. If it's really dry or really humid, you should transfer the tobacco to a jar. If in the middle and you're going to smoke the tobacco within a few months, I'd leave it alone. If it's going to be six months or longer, you may want to transfer it. The smarter thing to do is to avoid opening a bunch of tins unless you're going to smoke them within six months of less.

I've had their tins go bone dry in a matter of days.
They always go dry when you smoke them! The frogs and old Ashton blends seem to have enough humectant to last years ?‍♂️ Maybe some blends are different. I didn’t test the theory on purpose.

I keep many tobaccos in the tin, and they keep surprisingly good for long times, specially if you keep the tins inside a closet or a box.

If you are not going to be smoking them soon, I've resealed tins with aluminum foil and tape and they have kept the same for two years (longest that I have checked).

If you are going to smoke them in a fairly short period time (<month) you can leave them in the tin otherwise jar them.
This is my practice as well, I usually only have 2-3 blends in the rotation at a time. I don't believe there's a downside to jarring, it removes any question about whether the original container seals/re-seals or not.

I have about 30 tins open at the moment and they never go dry. I store my open tins in special containers that keep the tobacco fresh for at least a year and a half. I normally have 20-25 open at a time but I had a hankering for a special few tins so I opened them and now I am at 30 open tins. Within 2 weeks I will be back down to 20-25 open tins.

I forgot to add a pic of the plastic tubs I use. The Opaque containers with the white tops are what keep my tobacco fresh for so long. I got them at Walmarts in a 4-6 pack, I forget as it has been so long. I think it was 6 bucks for the 6 pack, only thing I know it was dirt cheap.

Only put them in jars if you're then going to ship them. And if that is the case, make sure you nestle them in there real tight with no packing material.

Once opened, I usually move it over to a mason jar. I have forgotten about a couple of tins in the past they dried out beyond saving.

A brilliant solution. If you keep like with like you'd have no trouble putting your hands on a blend or style of tobacco you're hankering for. Too late for me however. I have enough Ball jars to start making jam!

Think I mentioned this before but.... wide mouth peanut butter plastic jars and the large plastic jars mixed nuts come in work great. They'll keep tobacco fresh forever and best of all they don't really cost anything. puffy
