It's shallow I know, but I love tin art, I've bought blends because I was sold on the tin art, which is probably exactly what the fda wants to hear i suppose, but if all pipe tobaccos were all plain brown tins, I would still buy them.

I live in Canada where big brother likes to mettle. Tobacco products here have had rank gross images of routing teeth, cancerous mouths etc plastered all over packaging for at least 15 years. Recently a change was made so that literally all tobacco products packaging of all types and brands are all identical in that its a plain brown background with plain small white text saying the brand and type. The Canadian government likes to control...

Anyway, what I've always liked about ordering pipe tobacco from the u.s is the better prices (in CAD dollars, including the shipping costs it costs $15-$20 per tin if i luck out and don't get hit with duties, whereas a tin is $50 in stores and is plain brown by now i assume, maybe imports are exempt?) and the full tin art. It had been years since I've ordered tobacco, until recently. I've noticed the pictures of the tins, pouches, and tubs on sites like 4noggins, SP, Cupojoes etc show the large white warning labels. Oh well.

Anyway I've ordered bulk recently which obviously had no art, but I just received two tins of Presbyterian from SP and there's no big white label, which is nice. I read that thread post in the legislation forum, but it seems like there's the big labels on lots of tins now. I'm basically asking what the heck is going on down there? Is it or is it not required now. Did i get old stock? Was it required but now it isn't?

I just looked on the SP site, the Presbyterian tin picture doesn't show the label, but 4noggins does. I'm assuming 4noggins had the most recent stuff and it now has labels as a result. Am I right?

So is there the option of manufacturers using the warning label now, if current stock doesn't have it is it no longer required?

I have no idea. I've bought new tins of various brands with and without warnings. I collect tins so I like it when I get a non warning tin. I would like painted tins instead of crappy sticker labels, but that's not likely to happen.

It's complicated. Technically the warning is required for pipe tobacco because it is a "covered tobacco product," but there was a time (and must still be) that the FDA was not enforcing it for pipe tobacco products. [Reference]
