Thankfully it’s a lifestyle choice - wine or tobacco

A friend just posted some cigar prices - a Hoyo de Monterey robusto (one of my favourite Cubans) is now AUD$77 per stick. A cabinet of 25 sticks will be substantially more than 250gm of pipe tobacco.

One of the main draws of getting into pipes for me was the low cost and accessibility of the hobby. At the prices of tobacco in Australia, Canada, and some US states, I'd give it up and move onto something else. Just isn't worth it to me.

Obviously much easier to scoop up the small fish bringing 4-10oz of pipe tobacco than trying to land the big scary sharks bringing in container loads of contraband cigarettes or vapes

I feel you, my last 8 attempts at bringing some into Oz resulted in customs seizing it. Brave new world we live in..........

Here is what I tell customer support at the place I bought the tobacco:
hi folks, I had to return the tobacco I purchased from you because the tax and duty was $xxx.xx
I apologize for not abiding by your explicit instructions on out of country purchases.
i do not wish for a refund and if there are any restocking charges kindly let me know and I will pay for that.
Another option if you would pursue it would be if you would allow me to gift this tobacco to a good friend of mine who lives in Florida. I will pay for the shipping charges. I can assure you that this is not a ploy to get the ordered tobacco in a round about way. And he will not attempt send me the tobacco. its a gift for him.
if that is acceptable to you I will forward his address.

Unfortunately, we are unable to reship orders refused at Customs, even to US addresses. When our Returns department receives the shipment back in our warehouse, they will process a refund minus your original shipping cost and a 10% restocking fee. Once that's complete, you are welcome to place a new order to be shipped to any address you desire.

You can see that even at the workplace, home place, heck even the fun place. From the control freak wife, to the micromanaging boss to the two guys endlessly bickering because each one wants to be the boss of the re-enactment group, basically everyone is trying to control and micromanage everything others do. All the evil intentions and perverse behaviours start in our own individual hearts—the grand, national, world scale is but the avalanche started by all of our personal snowflakes.
