First, something that I've always noticed about technology is that they told us early on that we can save so much time when we integrate computers into our lives; however, every technological advance seems to suck up so much of our time.

When I take my wife shopping, I find myself setting out in front of stores smoking my pipe and maybe conversing with people, usually other men taking their wives shopping also. But, from time to time, I will find myself alone and fiddling with my phone for something to occupy my mind while smoking.

I used to have an APP of a really good chess game. It was one that you could work your way up in skill and complexity till you are finally playing a simulation of one of the great master's games. But, then one day it broke, and was stuck playing the same master game over and over. Ha ha, so I got to where I was playing against a stuck program that made the same moves no matter what my opening moves were. Now, I knew that the game was stuck, and I knew that beating a master Sicilian defence that was stuck in rote moves does not make me a great chess player. I am mediocre at best. But, at one time I had worked my way up to this level. But, it was a great time killer and a superficial feed to my ego, ha ha. So, I could kill 30 minutes beating this master game over and over. Then one day a few weeks ago, the iPhone removed the broken APP from my phone. I was sort of sad. About ten years of beating Bobby Fischer had ended, ha ha. I had gotten to where I could beat it in six moves. I know, I know, I realize that I wasn't really beating it, but it was a good time killer.

Now, I have downloaded a solitaire game, and can fire through rounds of solitaire in a minute a a game.

Does anyone else have a time killing APP that they use? Tell me about how you pass the minutes when you are stuck waiting on someone or just smoking your pipe. I know, most probably just come to this site. I do too, obviously. But, sometimes there are lulls in the posts or responses to posts are slow. Not always, but sometimes... like any great forum. But, do you have a fall back APP to kill time?
Sum of a bitch i was going to make this thread last night and I passed, just another crucial missed call in a string of them since the night I proposed at Capital Grille .. it was all down hill after that night.

I play a lot of cribbage, the easy and medium settings are useless unless you want to win every game but expert at least it's like playing a decent player and there is a multiplayer over the inter web mode but i haven't tried that.

With no particular rationale, I refuse to stare at a screen in public, or much in private other than this PC. I think this may have come from seemingly foolish people shouting into their cell phones while seated next to innocent bystanders in the airport waiting areas or taking a walk in my neighborhood when I am listening to nature blathering unending conversation. I just don't want to do that, or be that.

I hear apps as a sort of dirty word. When corporations or robots offer me apps, I am absurdly resistant. It means something bad is coming, and endless emails telling me who I am, when I'm not.

At some point, it is likely that I will fall prey to an app. I don't reject them on any philosophical principle. Technology has always played an adversarial role in my life, due to really bad association both at work and at home. I have this clear memory of a tribe of t-shirt techies moving their boxes into our office space while we prepared to move out to remote rental space all dressed in our office professional jackets and ties. Something wicked this way comes.

Obviously you are a man who has never "dined" at Applebee's.

Hmmm...

Are you referring to that restaurant because of the spelling --- APPlebee's --- or beause the chain is notorious for entangling its customers in a digital net the minute they walk through the door?

Browse the forums mostly. That and the kindle app is good to get some reading in. Oh and discord. I use discord a lot to keep in touch with my friend group. Wonder if their is any pipesmoking discord servers.

That's not from apps, that's from what you're watching on the internet
Yeah, I was only joking, mate. I only heard about Pornhub a few days ago and actually had to Google it to check it was what I thought it was🙄.

I haven't left the house since and I kind of resemble Quagmire after he discovered internet porn. Left arm and all.

After utilizing my brain all day, I crave something completely mindless at night—certainly nothing exhilarating like chess or crossword puzzles. I play yahtzee,

I don't have a smart phone and chose not to get one.

Tell me about how you pass the minutes when you are stuck waiting on someone or just smoking your pipe.

It varies read, pray, think, smoke pipe, listen to blather radio .

do you have a fall back APP to kill time?

No, but lately the most time wasted and killed in a horrible manner has been using the computer to communicate with doctor's and pharmacies ... and they still get things wrong because no one actually reads anymore !!! (ie: thanks for filling the scripts I didn't need and not filling the only one I actually requested !! took a week to get the one i needed ! ). Now I request script printed out and take to pharmacy.

Of course no one reads anymore so maybe no one will read this. Thanks for letting me kill some of your time ... appreciated ! ;) :ROFLMAO:

About 20 years ago I downloaded a Mahjong game onto my PC.

Once I'd got the hang of it I became addicted to the point I would waste 2-3 hours every morning playing it .

I feel better for for not having it now.

Regards,

Jay.
