Back in the days when we didn't have a preview of the first post when hovering over the thread's title, it was good practice to be as specific as possible.

Now, when you can see what the thread is about without clicking on it and opening it, why sweat a creative title??
Style? Panache? Douchery? (I may have made that last word up...)

Perhaps the remedy lies in some well defined thread titling standards.

For example, consider these often encountered examples:

What if?

WTF?

Can I...

Do You Ever...

Stop Me Before I...

Might it be a simple matter of requiring a thread title to comprise a complete phrase?

We could beef up compliance by dispatching death squads to exterminate transgressors and their families. Maybe not the family pets. A few such exterminations would work wonders and as an added benefit, probably improve the gene pool.

On the other hand, we don't want to get deluged with long and overly detailed titles like this:

Got My Jewels Caught In The Woodchipper And Don't Feel Like Smoking A Bowl, Is This Normal?

I'm sure there is a sensible solution to this pressing problem.

I’ve read and reread this thread... an argument requires someone to take the defense. But yet everyone in the thread seems to agree. This is far from an argument... just for the record.
Earlier, there were two posts right after the original post that could of easily led to an argument. Those posts have been deleted.

I'll leave it at that. No need to go any further.

A lot of times I like to make thread titles that are intriguing and draw the reader in but have nothing to do with what I want to talk about. For example I may write “Dunhill Employee Loses Testicle in Accident” because if I write “I like my new pipe” no one will read it. I never really got a lot of attention as a child and dad used to fall asleep when I talked about my day so I just assume nobody’s interested in whatever I have to say.
