I tell my wife, that I had a very hard day at work, very stressful, and that my best friend died. Then, crying disconsolately, I went to buy a few kilograms of tobacco and 30 corn pipes. I was crying brandy tears from my eyes...............It was just on a gray and rainy day

Thankfully I don't have to justify any of my purchases to anyone but myself though even that can be tricky at times but so long as I have the cash for whatever it is I want to buy then I always manage to convince myself I've made the right move :)

Regards,

Jay.

I just can't imagine asking my wife if I can buy anything. I mean, not because her opinion is of no consequence, but because we each do what the hell we want with our money. We each contribute to an account that we don't really have to add much if any to each month that covers our living stuff, which is fed by investments that each have control of, so pretty much our money is our money.
If most people living month to month would just set down with a finical planner, they can get past that impoverished shit. You do not have to be rich to start letting your money work for you. I know, I've been there with my thinking, but you do not have to live in that situation. A few years of tight bootstraps, proper planning, and soon you won't have to live in that month to month bullshit.

Then, you buy what you want, and she can buy whatever her heart desires.

Actually, the debate team in my head does a pretty good job of balancing every rationalization, so most purchases are preceded by a long spell of deliberation. My strongest counter arguments are usually: 1) I already have a pipe that fulfills that purpose. 2) I haven't even cracked the five tins of premium Va/Per I already have. So some of my excess purchases have served to balance my urge to buy stuff. Sometimes the whiney voice of longing just sounds too familiar, and I just ignore it. I sure don't hear my wanting something as an immutable command.
