Those screens were very popular in the 19th century, Imagine a bit of tobacco finds its way past the draft hole and your only way to remove it is to find a more or less clean feather. Pipe cleaners are a luxury we don´t apreciate.
Rarely, with finely cut tobacco that's dry, I'll get a particle or two in my mouth, which I spit, usually accurately, off the tip of my tongue into the waste basket. A screen is not needed.
I'm not sure I've EVER known anyone to use screens, even with the other baccies. I feel like they are marketed to people who don't know where to start. If you are worried about particulates in your mouth, a simple 6mm grabow/medico filter pipe will work fine. I think any metal in your bowl would possibly ruin the flavor of your tobacco too.
