I put 850,000 miles on three vehicles in the past 10 years
Nissan Altima (400k)
Lincoln MKZ (250K)
Toyota Avalon (100K)
Silverado (100k)
None used or leaked oil at the time of their sale (the MKZ took 1/2 a quart in 10,000 miles)

I changed the oil/filter at 10k intervals using Penzoil Platinum Pure Synthetic oil and a Pure One filter. That oil is designed for 10k changes.

I did the Blackstone oil analysis at 100k and 200k on the Altima and Lincoln - Blackstone said I could have easily done 15k oil changes. But, 10k was not inconvenient so I stuck with that. I do my own oil changes.

If you vehicle has an oil life meter, I would follow it. There really isn't a reason to use anything but synthetic these days.

Anyone here a mechanic? Question for everyone is what is your opinion on oil changes? Specifically would you rather get a standard petroleum based oil changed every 3-5K miles for $15, or full synthetic every 10K miles for $30? Basically who thinks using full synthetic for twice the miles is still better?
I envy you I can't get an oil change for less than a hundred bucks. I have mine after no more than 5000 miles and I have an indicator [ Japanese woman's voice] that really goes off if I drive at 10% [ not 10% of oil left rather 10% of 5000 or 4500 miles]. Since oil is so critical and so much can go wrong I would listen to the little Japanese woman in my car that yells at me if I don't put on my seatbelt or change my oil.

Ok I started the post and will end it..

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like synthetic wins hands down even if I pay more and do my own oil changes.

Everyone have a great weekend!!
