Thoughts on "giant" pipes?

cortez: that is an awesome video, that is one bad-ass pipe smoking dude, I wonder what blend he was smoking? Had to of really liked that stuff. He didn't even set off the smoke detectors with that thing.
reading the comments below said that there was also a video of him kissing another guy but that it was removed shortly after he did this pipe video. Still funny stuff to watch and he has perfected blowing smoke out his nose.
I still want one of those hats one of these days.

I don't smoke anything larger than my Savinelli 606EX which has a bowl 1" diameter and 2" deep. Have Danish hand made with 1 1/4" X 2 3/8" bowl and it just doesn't want to stay lit no matter how I pack it. Doesn't make sense but that's how it is.

I have a Giant Ardor, like Lawrence says keeps your hands warm in winter, you can lay it down and come back, got a 4 hr smoke on Stonehaven 1.5 that night and 2.5 in the morning I love my Giant. The old cajun :puffpipe:

That video above is still one of my favorites, and I'd still like to have a pipe that big.

I got one of those huge Jobs (if I spelled it right). The smoke lasted 5 hours, smoked quickly, 10-15 minutes an hour. It was no surprise that the briar didn't smoke that well. The price was low for a pipe about 4 times a normal size. The very thick bowl absorbed a lot of heat and still smoked cool. The size was good, the briar mediocre, so I sold it as an estate pipe.

I would only purchase one of those massive pipes as a house pipe. I definitely could see myself getting a much larger sized bowl for smoking in the house while watching the Lord of the Rings marathons or something, once I get an airpurifier ofcourse lol. Other than that I wouldn't get huge giant pipes like that to smoke around. Definitely prefer normal sized shapes for having a pipe out on the town.

Once you own a giant and your certain you love it there is not other pipe that will be lifted in your paws anytime soon. For me the size is proportional to the taste and cool smoke delivered. If you love aromatic tobacco and you smoke like a puffer often and not a sipper you will LOVE a giant pipe without a doubt. My only question is how big is too big at this point.
I also enjoy my churchwardens next in line of pipe choices for smoking my more select sweet tobaccos. Any heavy Cavendish will taste sweeter in small amounts from a churchwarden but stuffed into a giant it can get a bit messy unless you leave the tobacco out to dry for an hour or two.
One thing the new smokers need to learn is that in this forum you are surrounded by folks who are not smoking many aromatic tobaccos and they are in fact smoking seriously heavy blends that unless you have tried you will not know what I am talking about. Feel free to try what you desire but if you are a huge fan of things like Peterson's aromatic tobaccos, 1q and the like you will find that a giant is the only way to go!

Would definitely NEVER buy such a pipe.

Nothing against it, just not my type - both aesthetically and smoking-wise speaking!

I'm a clencher and my largest pipes are my favorites. I have a large Mario Grandi, an even larger Nording and most recently I've acquired a Savinelli Hercules 619EX which is just great. Nothing better for a long slow heavy lat blend. I'm not a big man, but man do I love a big smoke. Large pipes especially out in public get you noticed especially if you also have a large beard. Every pipe smoker owes it to himself to own at least one just for the sheer fun of it. They heat your hand and they are chick magnets. More than one lady has walked up to me and proposed marriage just to hang out with a hot old pipe guy.
