peck: That Peterson cap does keep the burn slow. The clip-on, screen type, in my experience, can, at times, cause too hot a burn. These I shield with my hand, the Pete seems to do okay just hanging from my jaw.

I am not so concerned about how it's smokes even though that's the purpose. I just love the silver trim. And boy does it have it...

even new they are not common, I read somewhere they are special order..
Peterson quit making them about a year ago. I contacted them in October of 2017 about ordering one, they responded with the fact that they no longer make them. They said that the company that made the lids for them has stopped making them.

@ unkleyoda, I am glad I picked it up it was $280 and was a little hesitant to spend that much but am glad I did now.

Very nice example, color me green. I have two wind-cap pipes, a swiss made billiard with a hinged metal cap, and a 'hurricane' style pipe with a pivoting bakelite cap. They both work pretty good for the intended purpose, so I hope your pipe will too.
