Bought a new legend that arrived today. Not sure what the plan is with it quite yet.

But figured I'd take some comparison shots of a brand new one, vs one that I've had for over 8 years.

I just love how they color throughout the years.

Is that the one you attempted to smoke exclusively for a whole year?

I smoked some Carter Hall in a briar yesterday, and the flavour was noticeably reduced from the cob smoked it in previously. I was rather disappointed and made a mental note to only use the cob for it.

Which made me wonder how much flavour I’m losing with the briars on all my tobaccos.

No the one on the right here was the one I spent an entire year with. I was going to hang it on the wall after my year was up, but I like it too much to not smoke it.

I don't think of cobs as disposable. I guess I do take them traveling, not wanting to lose my briars, but I'd still regret losing them. They smoke well and last for many years, as above posts attest.

I fitted all my previous cobs with Forever acrylic stems, and now I buy the special editions with stock acrylic stems. I tend to chew up the soft plastic stems, and this saves me the trouble of replacing them. They cost a little more, but I think I end up saving money.

Mike I am glad to see I am not the only person leaving things laying around and walking all over the house looking for the glasses I’m wearing. How’d it smoke after 6 months on a “weather deck”.

I thought it was because of the smoking properties and also that meerschaum was one of the more common materials for pipes in general. Kind of like if someone used a new material for a pipe they might call it Brebsburg Briar (or where ever the company is located.) But yes it's neat how they both color with time and smoking. Though meers do it nicer, the cobs kind of looks more dirty then aged.
