Not to be crass and materialistic about it -- and that is some superb carving on that Meerschaum -- but for the price, I'll take the new BMW sports sedan, which would be about double what I paid for my last new car.

I am no fan of Meers, especially the intricacy of the carving. I have no need for pipes like that. My one and only good meer is a smooth Apple with silver. It is an IMP and it is a quality product of you like that kind of thing.
Here is a pic of mine. I am not impressed with this Meer.

I think the better descriptor is “This is what $40,000 worth of delusion looks like.”
There’s a lot of work in it, but the figural carving, especially the hands, is crude. Compared to 19th century figural carving I’ve seen, it’s nowhere near that level of excellence.

If I want to see top notch carving, I go to a museum and look at the work of the masters.
But even that won't hold my attention for long. Just an afternoon dalliance that's all.

Some of the old Austrian meerschaum carvers were master sculptors. This pipe seems very well done by todays standards but childish compared to the older pipes.

Meershaum Market has fine pipes and reasonably priced in my opinion.
