I don't know how you're hitting the road, but I will offer this... I've lived in a travel trailer as well as a semi-truck, a tug boat and several Coast Guard cutters. On each, I've easily been able to keep & carry 10-20 pipes. It's all about space management.

If you do however decide to get rid of pipes I'd ask you consider two things;
1. Which ones do you smoke the most?
2. Do you need to make money off them?
a. If not, you could donate them or gift them.

Just my .02
love the donate it. Nothing like giving a pipe away and knowing it's going to the cause. Seriously if you don't need the cash there is a great feeling of knowing you're helping a new pipe smoker get off on the right foot.

Echo that. There is a guy on the board that gets them in the hands of service men who sure can use them.
I'll put it this way unless you need the cash, the joys it provides are going to end much sooner then the joy of knowing you did a minor good deed (it's not changing the world, just a small part of it). Years later they may still have the pipe and might even still smoke it. Actually pretty good chance of it if you direct them to at least look here and learn how to do the pipes.

Peterson Waterford
Poul Olsen
James Upshaw

But, really you should keep the 7 you like best.

Great idea but there is more to the story. Over the last couple of years, I have been striving to be more minimalistic. I use to have a problem with spending money and acquiring too many things. Sold off my knife collection, watch collection, pen collection, lighters, etc. Pipes are last and tobacco I am keeping (except some limited editions and Frog Morton Stuff). May keep up to 12 pipes but will sell the rest.
An admirable attitude, but one I don't aspire to.

I'm like Smaug, without the hoard of treasure, but with a similar attitude "Its mine, all mine. No one gets their paws on any of it " ?

I dread the day I might decide to do this. I am not currently on the path to minimalization but I feel the notion floating around in the back of my brain! I just know one day I'll be doing the same thing, but hopefully my children would like them as a keepsake. Then again, I don't want to burden them with clutter that means nothing to them.

better that a pipe is smoked. Owning a pipe that isn't smoked enough is like that husband or wife that won't give physical affection to their partner ever.... but cries their eyes out when their partner goes else where. Or like nate who ended up ghosting every girlfriend he had then was confused why they broke up with him.
So if you're smoking them cool. If just hoarding don't be surprised to find out your billard has been sneaking out to get smoked.

I'm not being stubborn. This sounds like a good life change. We certainly need to unload a world of stuff. But I would persist that you might stash, say, seven pipes with a friend, so if you lost your new spare rotation, you'd have replacements, which would be more minimalist than having to buy more. Having quit pipes, and then come back to them, having saved my pipes, I found this a good move.

I have only one pipe that is still unsmoked - a 1917 BBB cased bent billiard with an amber stem. I fully intend to smoke that - just waiting for my birthday later in the year. :)

No rack queens amongst my pipes. Any I don't intend to smoke will be gifted.

I quit pipes for over 30 years. When I got back to pipes just over 3 years ago, I was so pleased I kept all my pipes. I did let several go, but the ones I kept are part of my regular rotation still.

That's good to hear. A special occasion pipe is a fine thing indeed.
When I quite smoking in my early 20 for a whole long year, I was glad I kept one of my pipes the Lumberman. Though still regret getting rid of the Tyrolean. It was such an anomaly the thing smoked like a dream and I've tried to get another one like it that smoked decently. No luck the others I've tried are garbage and are unsmoked because they're not really pipes.
