Something more realistic, that I maybe could afford if I saved up a bit but just could never justify buying, would be a 60's-70's era Vox AC30 guitar amplifier. Man, those things just sound SOOOOO sweet!
Vox rules.
I first saw and heard them in relation to Spacemen 3 and the Fuzztones using them,

and the name Starstream is just friggin' too cool!
Here's a Starstream being demo'd with all the built-in effects...
This is a Vox Starstream V269 guitar being played through a Vox Pathfinder 10 practice amplifier DIRECT. The amp setting is clean. All the sounds and effects are the guitar itself.

I was with you Mike on the Rolex. I purchased a new Deepsea and loved it. However, after a year with it, I found that I had an itch it didn't scratch. I found it too conservative for my style is the only way I know how to describe it. In a way I was dissapointed, not in the Rolex, but in my boredom with it...but I do love a beautiful watch. My love for pipes is a similar attraction. There's just something about a very finely put together object that's meant to serve a singular purpose. Be it a fountain pen, a timepiece, or a pipe... there's a certain beauty in analog simplicity.

I would love to have a re-furbished, Western Electric 302, rotary dial phone. Fitted with a pulse to tone converter of course, so that it would be more "functional".
https://www.oldphoneworks.com/302-black-metal-case.html
I'd like it, but I can't justify spending well over $300 for something I wouldn't use all that much. The old phones are a throwback though. I remember my great-Grandmother having one of these in her kitchen.

I can sympathize with this, those old phones conjure some nostalgic memories indeed.
I've always wanted an Ericsson Ericofon because I've always been a sucker for Scandinavian design and I just think they look cool...

http://www.ericofon.nl/
...they do produce a remake though, for an affordable price:

However, it's just another one of those things (for me) which is better viewed and appreciated from afar,

if you know what I mean...
...like an Olivetti Valentine typewriter,

not exactly the most utilitarian or handy thing to have laying around, :P

http://www.moma.org/collection/works/4576

but they sure are beautiful objects of design!

:puffy:

I stumbled across the Ericfon site when I was searching out the 302's. Very retro. Not my speed, but I do appreciate the design and the popularity of them when they came out. Good stuff.
I wound up buying a replica phone myself, but wound up getting the "Lucy" because they didn't have any of the 302 replicas in stock. Good enough, it satisfies my desire to some extent.
I would still like to get the 302 replica, simply because of the classic, famous design. I love it.

In '64 we had new neighbors who had a black '63 Impala with a red interior and a white convertible top, and a 327,300 horse with a 4 speed. Then in '70 they bought a silver GTO. I was so jealous... :crying:

I can diggit,

but please don't sidetrack me with cars,

I will bore you to death.

(mostly oddball Euro stuff)
When growing up, my dad had a 1964 Plymouth Fury and it was absolutely the most badass piece of machinery that I've ever experienced --- and it wasn't even a Hemi,

it was a 361.
I love sleepers.
He admits regretfully that he should have never let it go,

oh how I would have loved to have that car!
And this nostalgic retrospect is exactly what drives many of us, in most cases,

to throw logic out the window and just go with the flow of our emotions,

because money can buy happiness of a certain sort,

at least I think so.
I know for a damn'd fact that if I had the greenbacks on hand that I'd go seeking out a '64 Fury and probably even start to cry behind the wheel as I was going 96MPH down the highway while memories of riding along with my father came flooding back.

(...while listening to the Eagles "take it to the limit" because that's my mommas song)
There's so much stuff in the world.
What do we really need?
Love.

This is a really interesting discussion. I think I have everything I need and I am seriously thinking of slowing down on my 'cutty' buying activities this year. I would probably like to slow down the work and retire this year and move somewhere warmer and far far away from NYC. Maybe return to the UK or something like that but on the material front I am all set. I have my health and few debts and a couple of coins in the bank so I am pretty happy with life!

I wanted to cut down my expenses for things I don´t need this year too. But even after selling my pocket knife collection I find myself buying pipes. I even have comissioned my first pipe!

Even more I am getting my Harley fixed this month although I barely have the time to ride it.
How goes the saying? The only true freedom is freedom from the hearts desires!

When it comes to pipes I don't need any pipe for a long time after purchasing 90+ this year, but wanting the rare ones are a BIG temptation.
I want a nice 2 Bedroom apartment but dont really need it as I live alone with no family and m y studio apartment is more than enough for me till I move out of India.
I want an iPhone but dont really need it. I am happy with the $18 phone I have as I spend 80% of my time sitting in front of a computer at work and home.

Sometimes I get naked and head into the forest with nothing except my tiny edition of Walden. I wander for hours and eventually find a spot, cover myself in foliage, and read and nap.
Thanks Nate for that Monday AM image that will take me a while to purge...
Hmmm...

80x100 Garage for my toys - fully equipped with "cave" acoutrements, facilities, lift, etc.

Vintage Divco Milk-Truck - must hot rod.

Harley-Davidson 883 (I'm short best I can do).
Although, I admit that a Lockheed Connie is a pretty cool idea...

I never buy anything I don't need...unless your pipe is some sort of life support system, yes you do.
Anyway, if we restrict it to pipes, I would really love a Dunhill Christmas pipe.

Hobbit, yeah I'm sorry about that. I may have gone a bit far, creating a visual I wasn't fond of either. My bad.

An advertiser's job is to convince you that things you want are actually things need. In their eyes, if you don't need it, they just haven't done their job well enough yet. :)
