It's not a contest. You don't get a prize for leaving nothing but white ash or never having to relight. A relight gives time for a break and a sip of whatever you're drinking at the time. It's even OK if you only smoke half a bowl and dump out the rest. Nobody really cares. And you don't have to buy expensive tobacco to have a pleasant smoke. SWR tastes fine to me and I like Sutliff's Duke Albert just as much and it's even cheaper.

Most things I learned about smoking a pipe before actually smoking turned out to be opinions or nonsense. It really ain't that complicated and there are almost no rules.

I agree with demystifying many things related to the world of pipes, but without falling into the opposite excess.
Smoking pipe on average well is relatively easy. Then there are the good ones, who load the FVF wet and in whole flakes, and light it with a single match, leaving only a small pile of white ash at the bottom.
But those, in fact, are good.
