another bob, I think the multi-function aspect of those Littoral Combat Ships didn't work out. There were supposed to be different packages for various functions, and the crew were trained in several specialties. During WWII the Brits made sub chasers out of yachts and fishing boats until they could design them for the purpose, and the U.S. did the same with civilian craft as minesweepers. But at least they were adapted to one purpose, not a list of them. My minesweeper was used for patrol for arms smugglers using junks. We had a top speed of 14 knots, and some of the junks could do more, and they'd leave grandparents behind a slow junk as a decoy.
