While browsing an English online pipe shop I noticed that they have new or 'newish' pipes in many of the old classic London pipe makers. I saw Charatan, BBB, Parker, Orlik, GBD and I can't remember what else.
Now I'm under no illusion that these classic pipe houses have been resurrected in all their glory but I'm curious as to what the deal is with them? Presumably someone went along and bought up the names and is putting them out. Does anyone know if there was some group of laid off pipe makers that went back into business making English pipes? Or maybe more likely, somebody is perhaps buying carved stummels from St Claude and finishing them in London? They are marked Made in England or Made in London so I don't think they could be complete counterfeits.
Anyway I am just curious if anyone here knows a little about them. While I couldn't bring myself to pick up a new Charatan (lol) for ~ 60£ I do have a 'Parker' and an 'Orlik' coming my way.
