Very interesting read, but I think the point was made here that how one puffs after the initial light is really the determiner on how a particular blend will taste during the smoke. I tend to agree with that as the temperature will drop (or increase) depending on smoking style and that will have more of an effect on the overall bowl.

Awesome read! I think I'll stick with my matches. I notice more flavor and less tongue bite when I use the sticks anyway... but this really explains it well.

Great read. Definately another one of those things that some will notice, and some won't. I notice the flavors that lighters give to the tobacco, and am in love with matches.
However I don't agree that it changes the flavor of the whole bowl. Just my experience.
