Every time I read one of @Briar Lee posts I seem to get visions of characters from the Andy Griffith Show! I half expect to hear in that Andy Griffith voice a tale of the time that a Lee 3 1/2 Star pipe was used to squeeze the grease glad on the butt hole of Otis somebody of others Great Dane! In terms of vile tobacco you have obviously never smoked Clan which is like sucking in a super heated fart!

There are bad tobaccos for my tastes: C&D Mississippi Mud smells like cat poop and tastes abysmal.
SG Celtic Talisman: nauseating cloying artificial plastic-tasting cherry.
HU Tillerman: dunno what’s wrong with it, I read it may contain chilli. Gave me intense tongue bite from the charring light.
Warhorse Bar: I actually like it but my wife complains it smells like burning tires drenched with patchouli when smoked OUTSIDE.
Gawith black twists: not bad on a good day, abysmal stale grillhouse taste on a bad day.

Tried plenty of distasteful (to me) blends, along with even more in the bland, boring & 'who'd smoke this shit' category. I'd hesitate to call any brand bad though as I'm sure the worst brand you can think of has it's fans, otherwise it wouldn't be commercially available. Having said that though, personally speaking I can't think of nothing worse than a bowl of Clan or Amsterdamer in one of those cheap Jack 'Lee' pipes.
Yes, same here.

I would say it depends of one's understanding of "bad". There is nothing intrinsically "bad" about Maggi soup cubes, in terms of that they will give you food poisoning, but when you compare it to a self-cooked broth from a chicken and fresh vegetables, there is a large difference in quality.

Same goes for blends. The soup-cube equivalent is your run-of-the-mill black cavendish based mixture with chemical vanilla cherry flavour.

Speaking of some pipe tobaccos, I find that some tobaccos seem to have identity dysphoria issues. But, given the confusing times we live in, that is to be expected, right? Is it an aromatic, an English, a burley, a Vapor, a Vabur, or is it some binary, poly trans flavored smoke? I am so confused by all of the names, I never know what to call zem. I guess it doesn't matter so long as they smoke, but then I feel guilty adding pollutants to the environment. At least the leaves aren't blue.... yet.

I won’t share the blend but the only truly awful experience I’ve had so far was with a well regarded, well aged Dunhill tobacco that didn’t suit me at all (though I haven’t revisited it and I will someday).

Maybe that is the point.

Some of the worst tasting tabaccos I smoked during the last 10 years were Dan tobacco Da vinci,2012 Peterson Summertime,2016 Jack knife plug,8oz of 2013 FVF,and 2015 SG Commonwealth,McBaren vanilla Everything else was acceptable..The new Carter hall version has too much chemicals for me...pre 1974 version is quite good and very different...

I'm not sure there is a universally-bad tobacco, just tobaccos I tried several times and then relegated the remainder to the bonfire pit. For all the trash I read about Velvet being "too smooth" and "flavorless," I was pleasantly surprised with the recent antique Velvet tasting wherein I enjoyed both the hundred-year-old tin as well as the sample of modern Velvet. I could see buying it. On the other hand, I've tried probably 30 or 40 C&D blends and the ones I continue to purchase I can count on one hand.
