This could get interesting! I posted a reply on the youtube page of someone who recently interviewed the dibeticman as moderators weren't referred to in a very kind manner (of which I thought was a positive message). That was met with total silence from that group.

Glad you're recovered, Cosmic.
Moderators never get the credit they deserve... sort of like a hybrid between janitor, editor and neighborhood policeman!

I'm with Brian and Tom, if you smoke a pipe and pipe tobacco you're cool in my book... unless it's Ennerdale (that's not tobacco lol).
Us pipe smokers are a small community and I find it very counter intuitive to snobbishly shun someone because they don't smoke aged tobaccos in a $1,500 straight grain artisan pipe.
I hope this interview will break the stereotypes and help some people to check out the other aisle. I've been watching YouTube videos and posting on these forums for about 6yrs now and I can say there are great people in both who are a wealth of knowledge in regards to this hobby.
It's safe to say we all know someone who's dealing with some form of diabetes. Let's band together and beat last year's fundraising!

Who has been shunned for not doing this?

We don't even have anyone that only smokes aged tobaccos, nor only smokes $1500 pipes. Even Peck and Harris smoke fresh tobaccos occasionally out of the occasional estate pipe. I've seen more people attack those of us who occasionally smoke aged tobaccos. I've even seen more people bash us for even talking positive about expensive pipes than the reverse. We have more cob smokers than anything active on this forum than anything else. I'm not complaining, of course we are all needed and welcome here. But, I also like to have fun. Only the most sensitive seem to get offended. And, as I look back at years worth of posts, in this, the best pipe forum on the Internet, it seems to be working.

I think that we agree on way more than we disagree. And, a touch of snobbishness is totally ok, and shows character, for the pipe collectors and the cob smokers. I know that I respect the hell out of our cob guys, and our aromatic guys. Heck, I've made more positive aromatic reviews than anything else. But, I also have a sense of humor about it all. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. Pro or con. It seems to stay in balance. IMO

Posting a manifesto a week before you're going to be on the radio show seems a bit deliberate to me. So if there is provocation to be assigned it's not here. When you make those kinds of assertions, IMHO you're trolling for reactions. You tubers take themselves way to seriously for my tastes but for those that enjoy it, have at it.

It seems like only yesterday I was basking in blissful ignorance of the raging war between YT and the forum. Now life will never be the same.

I watch many a YTPC submission from a variety of presenters. I actually subscribe to some. I've dumped some too, that I had subscribed to. (ending with a preposition, -2)

You have to glean your own truths, experiment with stuff and learn through doing.

I know that folks using twitter and facebook seem to have way too much influence on day to day discussion.

We end up with an LCD, or miss our mark of relevance.

In the end, the love you take is equal to the love.....you make....ah AHHH.

It's all good! :puffy:

I enjoyed the interview with my fellow Kaywoodie-loving, diabetic; I'm T2 though. I thought it was very positive in pointing out that we are all pipe smokers and need to band together.
I really enjoyed the music, too - though I'm obviously biased, having suggested my son in law; thanks again, Brian p, for playing it. And he can be found on YouTube and Facebook, if you're interested, as SWAMPFOOT (no, not selling anything that I'm aware of).

I've often wondered where this idea comes from that pipe smokers are a community of mild-mannered, calm, gregarious people. Most of the pipe smokers I know are angry, grumpy people who can barely tolerate company of any sort.
We, on internet forums, are a self-selecting group who join because we are interested in connecting with other pipe smokers. But I'm not sure we're representative of pipe smokers. I'm sure we're all in favour of pipe smoking being more common in the world, but I don't think that's the same as feeling a sense of community with other pipe smokers. And, to be frank, even here things often become quite fractious.
Are we disappointing ourselves because we have the wrong expectations?

I have no idea. Pipe smokers can be quite contrarian. It comes with the territory. Besides, how would there be any kind of interesting discussion if everyone just agreed. We come together because of a shared interest and put aside our differences here, but there are differences. And those differences are what fuel discussion.

The pipe allows the differences to be discussed in my experience.

I am a conservative/libertarian Christian and drove down to Nashville with a liberal atheist, because of our love for tobaccos. In that trip we talked religion, politics, family, history, and of course the pipe. It's not about all being hand-holding bussum buds; simply being cordial and respectful to fellow smokers. If we start there who knows whom we'll meet or befriend.
I am also one of the furthest from calm and mild mannered people you'll meet

"Except Twitter people. They suck hard!! Very hard!! I hate those prickfaced scumbags." said Cosmic.
I just tweeted a reply.

I just slammed Twitter because it's been years since I have heard anyone talk about them. I figured that they probably didn't have an actual Twitter pipe community. I could be wrong.

Someone told the Dagners that we had attacked theediabeticman in this thread - http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/i-am-youtube-pipe-presenter - which they said they hadn't actually read. But, if you read, we were all just jiving around as usual. Phhhht, overreaction, IMO. Thom seemed to get our humor, but someone (over-reacting sensitive type) obviously took us to be bullying him around. Yep, a panty-wad thing.
