I got my meerschaum yesterday. It was an estate pipe I got on Ebay for $10. It's a Paykoc billiard with a simple grape leaf pattern and it came with a fitted case. The only down side is the former owner had cracked the mortise. He had rigged it so the mortise is stuck to the tenon and you put the pipe together by screwing it back into its place when you put the pipe back together. It was also pretty dirty from someone handling the bowl with dirty fingers.
I made a metal ring for it so it would go together properly and cleaned it off very carefully with cotton balls and some lemon juice. I gave it the wax treatment and now it's a great looking, great smoking pipe. I have to baby it until the replacement mortise/tenon gets here, but it's awesome! Eventually I will get a brand new pipe, but right now tweaking on these old ones is giving me some knowledge that I can use later. Hell. Can't beat a large meer for $10.
You guys weren't kidding when you said a meer is a whole different smoke! The bowl is huge so I can smoke for like an hour and a half! I'm gonna use it to try out new tobaccos like some of you guys do.
