Izmir tastes like flowers and spice (cloves, allspice) and a little bit like cigar leaf. If you've ever smoked a Macanudo or any cigar with a "claro" wrapper, it sort of tastes like that (but with lots of violets and spice).
A leaf like Drama tastes a bit more olive-like, or like olive wood smells, but with floral overtones.
Yenidje tastes/smells like incense, with just a touch of lemon.

pitchfork really nailed it! For Izmir, I would add that I detect a mustiness; but that may be part of the Macanudo flavor to which he alludes (and with which I have no experience.) It would be worthwhile to pick up a few ounces of blending Izmir just to toy with.

cortezattic, you're exactly right, there is indeed a "mustiness" (for lack of a better word) with Izmir. I use the C&D bulk Izmir that you linked to.
Also, it doesn't get talked about much, but Daughters and Ryan makes a blend of pure Oriental (a mixture of Orientals) called Ramback. It has a very soft, sweet, just slightly medicinal taste to it. I think it may have been originally formulated for cigarettes, but it's a great blender if you want a subtle Oriental note that's soft and not in-your-face the way Izmir can be.
