I never had any luck with the "swirl" method.

However; I will swirl pack my pipe by picking up a thumb and three fingers "pinch" of tobacco and make circular motions with the tobacco while it fills my upright pipe.

I find that this "inverted" swirl is fast, consistent, and works very well.

Been packing pipes like that for years... especially good for packing from a pouch.

I don't smoke much ribbon, actually very little. Have never smoked out of a pouch and I can see where that may make a difference. So I broke out some of "Romeowood's own" blend from the box pass, which by the way is great stuff! Want more! Must have more! :worship: So I've always used the three step method mainly just checking draw and never had an issue. Seems ok, but I can't say its superior and a little messy. But there's nothing like a good bowl anyway you fill it.

Saw this a while back but never tried it until just now. Works GREAT! Filled up my cob with Vermont Meat Candy and it is smoking great.

Thanks for the reminder

Wow, I tried the Swirl, or Palm, method today with some Deacon's Downfall. I can't believe how well it worked for me. Not a single relight all the way down to the bottom. Will definitely use it going forward for ribbon cuts.

Tried it out over the past few days with my ribbon cuts, (which is almost my entire stock). Works reliably well. Tried it loading up a couple extra Falcon bowels to carry out in the field today. Quite impressed with the consistently good results.

I tried that method using Peter Stokkebye Bullseye flakes and could not get it to work.

Anyone tried this right in a pouch?? I am gonna give it a "whirl" today, I think if I pack my pouch with a little less tobacco I can make it work on the inside of the pouch to eliminate the mess in my hand and surrounding area. LOL

I just watched the video and it seemed like a magic act the way the tobacco just disappeared into his pipe.
I just tried it and it works! Son of a gun, its burning beautifully. Obviously it needs ribbon cut tobacco so the strands will curl up and drag inside. I had to push it down a wee bit to get the draw the way I like it, but it is a neat method for ribbon cuts.
Thanks, GT, for posting this video

I am finding this to be the best way for me to pack a pipe. I do smoke 95% ribbon cuts so this is great. I can do it right inside my pouch and it works great. I even "fluffed" up my tin of LEO and was able to swirl it right in the tin. Why didn't I try this before?

I will have to give this a try. I usually just stick the bowl in the tobacco pouch, stuff in some tobacco with my finger and I'm good to

I rubbed out a couple of flakes of Escudo yesterday, and it worked pretty well for me. Of course, the relative humidity in Colorado's pretty low, so the flakes that I'd tucked into a pouch were starting to dry out... Need to jar them this week, I think.

I am going to give this a try later today with some dunhill EMP. I thought about rubbing out a flake of Golden Slice, but I let it get too dry and it was just going to crumble if I tried rubbing it out.

That this method works well with ribbon tobacco is an understatement. Perfect or almost perfect bowl packs with almost no effort every single time. ME LOVES! I'll be using this for anything remotely ribbon cut from now on.
