To answer the bag/storage part of your question, Jar it up if you're not going to be smoking it all with a few weeks.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice! I transferred it to a large mason jar. I hope this is sufficient. To answer the bag/storage part of your question, Jar it up if you're not going to be smoking it all with a few weeks.

Mason jars are a tried & true way to store tobacco for extended periods of time after opening a tin or buying bulk. Cheap, effective, & they even have a handy box to store the jars in. I’ll write what the blend is & the date opened on some painter tape & stick it to the lid. I’ve also experimented with rehydrating overly dry tobacco by gluing a piece of sponge to the lid, adding some distilled water to the sponge, & sealing it up. Check it every couple of days till it’s where you like it & transfer it to another jar. It should stay moist as long as it’s sealed.Yes, I have been reading about drying. I feel like this first batch I got may be dry already? It is in a ziplock bag (I need to figure out how to store it), and it is not cool to the touch, it rebounds when I squeeze it between my fingers, and flakes apart when I drop it. All that being said, I am sure I will figure it out as I go!
Greatly appreciated! You voiced my experience with cigar smoking to a "T". I look forward to enjoying the hobby for a long time.I have always considered myself a non smoker. Being a long term fan of Scotch whisky, I delved into the dark side of peated smoky whisky during lockdown. On the back of this I thought I would give cigars a go. Conducted research, and delved in bearing in mind the high cost of cigars in Scotland. I convinced myself I enjoyed it, but deep down I was not enjoying it. Didn't find it relaxing, particularly tasty, and was very cost prohibitive. I was always worried about nicotine overload causing nausea. Being someone who doesn't always follow what are seen as popular trends I still had an itch to scratch. Gave pipe smoking a turn instead and have not looked back since. Your skills of packing, lighting and smoking will develop. Not every bowl will be the nirvana you yearn for, but many will. I urge you to not to get too het up on too specific technicalities and try to get a feel for it yourself. I think no two pipe smokers have the same exact methods. If you stick with it and understand there will be good days and not so good days then you will enjoy the hobby. I am also a similar age and only smoke two bowls a week. Have fun.
I am not ACTUALLY a grandpa, yet... but I do look like one. I was not in any way offended by them, it was actually fun.I am not sure why people think being a 'grandpa' is a bad thing. I think of it as having earned your stripes in life. I am proud to embody what it means to be a Grandpa!
Friend, you don't look a day over 60, the naysayers (and their damn kids) can get off your lawn.I am not ACTUALLY a grandpa, yet... but I do look like one. I was not in any way offended by them, it was actually fun.

Ohhh, that makes sense! It looked like an interesting recipe with a lot of ingredients I didn't recognize! As it turns out, that is exactly what it was!To be a little more specific since your new to the site. I am enjoying spending time here, probably TOO much time. I have work to do and I am avoiding it to spend time reading threads here. Always dangerous for me to start something new. I tend to obsess at the expense of less desirable, but more profitable, activities!
To be fair, that's an awful lot of white hair to be only 48.
