Nothing wrong with threads like this, but I would just like to point out that we have 100x's more non-forum members watching these forums than members. So, when someone posts, such and such is back in stock, you have not just given a heads up to your friends, but a heads up to the entire world-wide hoarding empire of credit cards waving Orcs.
Being on this forum for a hot minute, I have seen this happen over and over. "Look, such and such is back in stock." And, instantly, it is no longer in stock.

Again, do what you want, but the results you see might not be as anticipated.

LOL, I just opened a box that came the other day to take a pic of the 4 tins of Vanilla Flake I ordered to let the legions of lurkers know those tins weren't available as a counter measure!

And . . . I mistakenly ordered Virginia Flake, joke's on me!

C&D Virginia Flake? If you haven't tried it, it is a remarkable flake. No casings, just oats, hay, and scents of baking breads. I have cellared that one deep.

Edit: Oh probably a MacBaren Flake, because... Vanilla Flake, My bad.

Cellaring for the purpose of long term aging is hardly hoarding. Even purchasing your long terms needs due to a blend you like going out of production is not hoarding. I'd call it intelligent. Call it whatever you wish but if you fail to address your long term smoking usage, don't whine a few years down the road when your favorite blends are gone from your shelves.

I just added 40 tins of Sir John's Flake Virginia a couple of weeks ago. Had purchased 60 to 70 tins 3 or 4 months ago. I read somewhere this is one of the blends that will go away and it is a blend I smoke first thing every morning. I should have enough to last me 15 years or longer now.

And don't be confused that Retailers limit the purchase quantity for altruistic reasons. Many people will add a few other things to their cart if they are limited to 5 tins of their favorite in order to meet the minimum requirement for free shipping.

The n a m e Capstan Blue will remain. What iteration of that blend that staggers out of the STG factory is anyone's guess.
Very true, nobody has ever accused STG of improving a blend after acquiring it
In the UK, we only get the Blue ready rubbed and in 25g pouches at that. If we get upgraded to 50g flakes, it would be a bonus, but I can't see it happening.
I had no idea it was available in pouches anywhere. I know it used to be available in tins in the UK, Tolkien kept several and that's part of how we know it was his favorite

I just made my last order of HH blends. I ended up with 10 tins of Old Dark Fired, HH Burley, Pure VA and 5 tins of Latakia Flake and Balkan Blend. Old Dark Fired will be supplemented with St. Bruno and Jackknife Plug and rationed out, one tin per year. Pure VA will be enjoyed the same way, and I have plenty of other VA blends to fill the void, but it was my favorite hot day summer smoke. Old Dark Fired was great as well. I generally like minimally topped offerings and will really miss the HH Line. I do not smoke every day and take off months at a time on occasion so I'm sure I will find something else to fill the void and make these last. I imagine there may be some rare times that these are offered as imports on a limited basis as well.

I haven’t cellared any Mac Baren blends. I may have a tin or two of a couple things, but nothing new has been added. I did cellar the Sutliff blenders that I use, probably should have ordered more. I cellared all the old Standard Tobacco blends that they made, and that’s it. It’s not that I wouldn’t love to have many other of their blends, but I’ll never smoke it. I cellared five pounds of each of the McClelland flakes. Do I smoke them? No. Too busy trying other stuff and blending. Will I sell it? No, probably not. It will be my wife’s problem after I’m dead.

All this tumult that’s been rocking the forum for the past weeks…it’s all just change, plain and simple. And change is the only constant.

Yeah because this is a vacuum?
The posts that happen here are simultaneously happening in 40 other places, give or take a minute.

I have several MacBaren blends in my cellar. I am glad I was able to pick up a pound of HH Latakia Flake and two tins of Cherry Ambrosia in the final shipment. I would love to have others, but HHLF is my "if you can only choose one..." MacBaren blend. I also enjoy cherry blends and had always intended to try CA so it was now or never! 😁 puffy

I picked up some HH Full Virginia and Dark Twist Roll Cake, a big tin of each. I'll crack open the HH when I'm done with the regular VA flake I got, not sure when I'll open the Roll Cake. Both should last me a long time and I'm not in a hurry since they'll only get better the longer I wait.
