It wouldn't be too hard to have an app that tracked price changes over time. I'll put it on the someday weekend projects list.

The point with Royal Yacht is that it is not hard to get, only difficult to love
There must be something wrong with me, then. The first time I set a match to a bowl of RY it was instant love ...
Then again my celebrity crush is Mayim Bialik, so I'm not exactly well known for having "normal" tastes :)

It was not instant love for me, but as I learned to appreciate it, I realized I would be terribly sad if it went away. And that quickly formed a lasting attraction!

Now I'm forever going to connect RY smokers with Mayim Bialik. This explains a lot..

I am fairly slow to develop a positive reaction to something, especially in tobacco, but Royal Yacht was an easy one. At the time I was smoking a lot of plugs and twists, so it was easy for me to make the correlation in my head to the flavor and the genre. If I had of come from just gold and red Virginias or VaPers to Royal Yacht, it might have been a different story. If you get too far outside of what you know different genres of tobaccos to taste, then it sets off the "awful" alarms in your brain.

Like, if you tried a curried lamb, and you had never had anything but McDonalds to eat, you might mistakenly think that curried lamb was horrible. :puffy:

I didn't realize you guys were serious when you were complaining about the sale price on Solani. But $12.19 is the regular price. If you buy 5, you get 12 bucks (20%) off the total (i.e. about $10 per tin).

I experienced a vast sense of being underwhelmed with their Burley flake. The C&D version however was an instant hit...

They're very different, but I like both. I think the Solani burley flake is special for its smoothness and sweetness -- it's like how I imagined Edgeworth would be, but it's actually better. But it's definitely not as robust as the C&D burley flakes.

How does Edgeworth compare to C&D's Cube Cut Burley, if you don't mind me asking?
Mixing 60-40 Burley Flake #1 and Royal Yacht (or Hal O' The Wynd) makes a joyful pipe...

I don't think they're very similar at all. The Cube Cut Burley has no casing or sugars and is similar to other C&D burleys, except that it's a cube cut and is a shade smoother than Old Joe Krantz or Haunted Bookshop. It's really nutty and has that very natural, pure burley flavor. I love it and it's probably the tobacco I smoke the most -- just got another 4oz in the mail, today, in fact.

I might have to get some to mix with Prince Albert. It's good stuff but needs some body. Also sounds good on its own.

That sounds like a good combo. I sometimes add it to my C&D burley blends or to Jackknife Plug, but mostly I just smoke it on its own. It's very simple and plain, but if you're a burleyphile like me, it's great stuff.

I had my first bowl of RY, and I have to say it is a strong blend.. A bit bland on the flavour and aroma, but definitely good tobacco.. I will try to mix it with an aromatic or another Dunhill to see what I can get

Well, tried RY the first time this week. In the last couple of years I have probably tried 20 different tobaccos. RY was a nice smoke, but ... It completely knocked me on my you-know-what from a vitamin N perspective. Last night, I even started sweating during the second bowl, and here in KS it is rather cool weather-wise. Only thing that has come close is Nightcap, and even it didn't have as much N. I won't give up, but it won't be on an empty stomach, or any time near when I need to get to sleep.

I imagine nicotine hits different people in different ways as I found it quite mild with no hint of being strong in the slightest in the nicotine department. Of course that could be attributed to the fact that I've been a cigarette smoker for 50+ years.

Yes!
If the 'Yacht seems strong at first -- this sensation will pass, in my experience -- you might try mixing it with a light Burley. The Virginias and Burley complement each other nicely and this can tone it down a bit.
Planning to set sail in a few moments here myself!

Think I'll load up some Royal Yacht right after this bowl of Old Joe... I like threads like these cause they can influence what tobacco will go into my next pipe.

DeathMetal, have you ever tried the Murray's production of Royal Yacht? The one Pipestud is so fond of. Apparently it's nothing like the current production. I always wished I could have tried a tin of the "real stuff". I have a tin of Hudson's Bay, which I've heard is similar to the original yacht but I haven't popped the tin yet.

I bought a tin today, and am taking my first voyage aboard the Royal Yacht. Based on its polarizing nature, I really expected the topping to be a lot more pronounced. I like it. Not sure how much I like it, but it's cool. I appreciate the strong dose of nicotine. More exploration needed.
